Fun Coincidences

I have been thinking a lot about coincidences lately.  OK, you got me, I have been reading Dean Koontz again (I finished "Your Heart Belongs to Me" on the airplane back from Las Vegas and I highly recommend it).  Here are some weird ones that have happened to me lately:

*When I had my seizure, I had it at home instead of in the car driving to work because my boss Laree had changed my schedule that week to come in at 10:00 AM instead of 7:30AM. If she hadn't done that, I would have had the seizure driving to work and possibly hurt someone and/or myself.  Thanks Laree!
*When we were riding the bus down the Las Vegas strip there was a couple in front of us that I started talking to (she had an English accent so I had to start up a conversation).  I soon found out they were from Florida near where I had lived when I was younger.  They asked where I was from, and I told them I was from a small town in Alabama.  She said her best friend lived in a small town in Alabama called "Deatsville."  What are the odds of that (do you hear the song from The Twlight Zone Movie yet?).
*My Mom gave me that Dean Koontz book to read a few months ago.  I had put it away in my bookcase to read later.  I drug out some books to read on the plane ride to Las Vegas. Since it was larger, I thought it might be enough to keep me entertained on our 4 hour flight.  Somewhere around Chapter 5, the main character mentioned having his seizure (for those of you who don't know me very well, I had a seizure at the end of July).  In the next major scene, he was on a plane to Las Vegas. Ok, that made me stop reading for awhile - I was scared to see what happened next. The man next to me said I shouldn't read anymore of the book.  LOL!!!
*Now to the coincidence in my picture.  About a month ago, I participated in a card challenge called Teapot Tuesday.  The challenge involves a detailed make believe story (although Mothermark, the challenge leader/creator, swears it is real) and a featured teapot picture. The participants make a card based on something in the story or teapot that inspires them.  We usually send our cards to someone in the hospital, someone who is struggling, or someone who needs a major pick-me-up (how fun to get 42,000 cards from people all over the world when you are down).  Every once in awhile, we send our cards to each other.  Mothermark draws our names during that challenge and tells us who to send our cards to.  I got Mutnik.  For those of you who don't know who Mutnik is, she is a very tallented artist and a really sweet girl (her real name is Cathy).  The card I made was not up to Mutnik standards by any means, and then I had my seizure.  To shorten up this story, I didn't send my card to Cathy but I sent her a note telling her that I would send her eventually. Cathy draws cartoon dairy cows which are very funny and very well done.  When I was in Las Vegas I ran across a group of collectable cows from the Cow Parade.  I bought one to send to Cathy, and I came up with a cute card idea to send with it.  When I got home, there was only one envelope that wasn't a bill and it was from Cathy  - she had made me a card featuring Curt the Cow as a male nurse.   Her card is on the right in the picture above and mine is on the left.  My card is made with a stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers called "Fun on the Farm" and is patterned after last week's card on The Case Study Blog.

Those of you who read all the way though this unbelievably long post would get some blog candy if I knew how to create it.  It would say something like, "I Made It Through A Story At Nancy's Kitchen Counter."

Hugz to all!!!

  1. Oh Nancy, I'm so glad you started a blog and I read your story of coincidences....my gosh...so glad you weren't driving when you had your seizure. I didn't even know you went to Las Vegas. Did I miss that in the punchiez chat room? I have not been there much lately....you know, when you have a blog, you get a lot busier. Of course, other things, too.
I love the name of your blog!!! See ya..here or there. LOL

  3. Ok-I made it through the story no prob but now I am hungry cause you talked about chicken and waffles in your email. Chicken and waffles are a staple in Southeast Georgia Y'all. We even had a restaurant called Doc's Chicken and Waffle....(it closed-bad economic times)it is one of the Doctor's I go to when I have a cold or something...lol So you can go get an antibiotic and some chicken and waffles at the same time right next door. How's that for living in the south. The cholesterol in the food is good for Doc's business-I knew there was a reason to open a restaurant right next door to the practice! I found out this little trick-there's usually a waiting room of 20 people as it is a walk in place. One time I was so sick I waited there 5 hours to see the Doctor because I could not breath. Well the trick is to let them know as soon as you walk in that you can't breath...that scares the crap out of them and they take you to the back right away for a breathing treatment. Works like a charm every time!!! lol I suppose if I said I had chest pains that would work, but I don't want to push it!!! lol I usually don't go until I can't breath anyway.

So anywho-tomorrow I am putting the empty laughing cow boxes in the mail to ya. Word to the wise for future reference....go to the dollar store and get some pumpkin spice and sugar oookie candles in the small glass jars that look like Yankee candles-remove the labels. I am working on a project now that I know you and Crystal will want to do....lol

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
