Childhood Memories


I made this card for the Twisted Sisters Challenge a week ago and forgot to load it. The chalenge involved making something reflecting a favorite childhood memory and then to tell the story.

My image is from Dilly Beans, and I think it is so sweet. I bought it because it reminded me of my sister and I when we were little - in one of the moments when we were not fighting of course. My mother loved to sew and made us the cutest matching dresses - we always had a new one around the holidays. One Christmas, she saw some cute green dresses at the store and she just had to buy them. We didn't have a lot of money, so this was a huge splurge. She loved the dresses, but we hated them. They had some kind of scratchy netting on the inside to make them fluff out and they were soooo uncomfortable. They also had this white lace at the neck that dug into our skin. I tried to replicate the dresses on this card.

You thought that was my memory didn't you? My favorite memories are of my little sister Sara. We were always very close and did everything together. She was a little sweetheart. She never lost her childlike sweetness and innocence even as she got older. We lost her in 1997, and I feel her loss so deeply I can't even explain it.

    Such a great image and I love the paper pieced dresses and doily you tucked in behind. So sorry to hear about the loss of your sister and how you miss her((hugz))!!! Just glad you have many wonderful memories :)

    I remember this from SCS. It is just the sweetest card and I know you had many memories to dwell on as you made this card. So sorry for your loss, Nancy.

    Very sweet card and lovely story behind it :) Me and my two sisters also had homemade new dresses every Xmas - the photos from the 1970's are so funny now!!

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

 I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

 On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him.
