Hello crafty friends!
This post is all about my adventures using masking tape in my journaling and I am linking it up to the **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* blog where this month we are all playing with texture. Several crafty friends have joined me in trying to learn mixed media better. We all meet up at Splitcoaststampers.com in a monthly challenge we call MMJ. We watch at least two videos on a technique and then try it. We are on our 5th challenge - masking tape.
I have lots and lots and lots of texture on these pages. The first two have a ton of masking tape and the last has just a tiny bit (had to take some off to achieve where I was going in my head - lol).
All have a base of 5x6 Amazon Box cardboard, layered with white gesso then layers of tape (drywall tape used on the top two as well), then paint or paper or both. I used Arteza Gouche paint and Dylusions spray on the top two.
These are going in a ring journal I am making for my daughter - the backside of each one has a letter to her of encouragement and also how proud I am of her. I am doing one of these for everyone attending my birthday this year. I plan to have a wine and cheese party (one of those elaborate fruit and cheese boards). I want to play charades or some other fun group games like Apples to Apples or something.
This first page is all about how Crystal has embraced the outdoors and can hunt and fish better than most men. I love that she has embraced her husband's hobbies - something I never did but wish I had. I did steal and old rusty metal piece from his tackle box to add to this. The fish is from SU! and was watercolored to match the colors on the page (which are last week's color challenge colors at Splitcoaststampers.com).
This one celebrates her beauty and style and great hair (she has the best hair and it is sooo thick). This picture was taken at a winery on her birthday. I used die cuts sent by a friend.

Wow, what stunning pages! All the texture that you created is so amazing, the masking tape looks added so much dimension to the pages too - I love it 😀. Of course the stories behind the pages are fabulous too, I love how you capture such happy memories on your pages! The rusty fishing tackle looks perfect too 😁. What a lovely idea (the party) and what a set of gorgeous pages you have made already. I just adore the first one. Your daughter is in a frame and that frame is within another frame and so it goes on with the final half frame (the right hand side). I think the fish is just the perfect one for this page and I do like how you have placed it at the bottom left hand corner of Crystal's frame.
ReplyDeleteYes, she is a beautiful girl and has such absolutely "long for" hair. That is a lovely photograph and showcases her so perfectly. Love the colours you have painted the page and the bunting cut from script adds just the right amount of 'rustic' element to go with the autumnal colours you have added.
Finally the page where you say broken hearts are mended. What a lovely way to celebrate the joining of two sisters, such thought has gone into this.
Lovely pages and lovely stories that surround them. I hope you have a wonderful birthday when the time comes.

Fabulous pages! Your daughters are beautiful. I had the same experience with my younger sis. As kids we couldn't have been more different and didn't do anything together. Now we're best friends. What a wonderful gift.

What a wonderful gift this will be for your daughter, showing with every thoughtful detail how much you admire and cherish her. I love the rusty fishing tackle bit (wouldn't know what it was!) and the lovely flower garland and leafy dies with the music manuscript trim on the second page.
