I set out to case THIS card by Leslie Springer as she is this week's Featured Stamper on Splitcoaststampers.com, but I wanted to do a more detailed background with watercolors. I was so lucky because I found THIS awesome video by PaintyKat showing how to create a great winter wonderland picture.
I created the background in my bible and on two panels of watercolor paper (one sheet that I had cut in half). I then cut the watercolor paper panels in half so I had 4 pieces. I was able to create 4 cards and one BAJ page.
I used watercolors. My versions are not anywhere near her awesome creation, but I used a cheap set of watercolors, only two types of brushes, my sponge was old, I did them super fast, and I am a beginner (hopefully that is enough excuses to get me by - lol). I had so much fun and it was so relaxing! I love how they came out - especially the peaceful feeling of the Bible Journal Page (Psalms 119) and the fun of the Santa card.
All my stamps are from DRS Designs (Large Script Merry Christmas, Small Merry Christmas Greeting, and Santa with Birds Christmas Scene). I also added in some SnowTex on some of the Christmas Cards to give it more of a snow feel (and to cover up a few smudges - lol). I added in a few little birds to the sky on my BAJ page on the top right of the page as I am still following Wendy's Bird theme at **Art*Journal*Journey*.
The Santa on my case of Leslie card is feeding the birds in the forest. I stamped him on watercolor paper, painted him up and the fussy cut him so I could add him to the scene. Isn't he cute?
Absolutely beautiful! Love the cards and Bible spread, very well done. Love your cheerful Santa and that he's feeding the birds . Have a great week, stay, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteWow! More of you amazing work! I started wathcing that great video link you posted ...I hope to watch more of it later. The artisit is a great instructor, I have never tried to do anything like she is showing or anything like the wonderful work that you do. I feel I fall in the catagory of someone who can't draw a straight line...however, you have now made me want to try and adventure out a bit more...(but I'm afraid it will have to wait until I get my Christmas cards done. (not sure I can do it but I would like to try).
ReplyDeleteYou may not believe this, but you have great control of your watercolors. What a beautiful journal page and lovely Santa with a bird, too. It's a real beauty, too. If it's part of the journal page, we can use it at Art Journal Journey using Wendy's theme, too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous winter scene Nancy. You have some great deep colors with your watercolor. And your cards are also wonderful. I love how if you put them together they create an even bigger scene. Love the santa. And you really captured the feel of winter also. This is a wonderful entry for Wendy's challenge at Art Journal JOurney. Thanks for joining us. Hugs-Erika
