4,000 miles, Mexican Food, and Some Art

Happy T-day if you celebrate it.  I am late, late, late but I didn't want to miss catching up with the T-day gang over at Elizabeth's Blog. 

I visited California last week after 40 years and would you believe I have only two interesting pictures?  First, my trip was a quick one for work, but almost immediately after I landed, I started having pains.  Turns out a kidney stone decided to visit California along with me.  The people at the hospital were super nice!  Here are my two interesting pictures:

Hwy 1 - I was lucky enough to get to drive along the beach on the way to the office.  Not a great picture as I was in a hurry and also not feeling great.


 I love Mexican food and I got to eat one of my favorite dishes (Chile relleno) at a fabulous place in Oxnard.

This is the worst thing you can eat with a kidney stone by the way.  No interesting drink pictures from the week - the only picture I have is of some sweet tea at Firehouse Subs (local town near my home). 


Closing with a few painting/sketches I have recently done - all are cards sent to thank friends or to celebrate an 80th birthday.

    It's ok to not take photos, that means you are enjoying the trip and not spending the time staring through a lens.
    Your paintings are lovely, I especially like the one with the bottles.

    Oh what a pain!! To have a kidney stone on a rare vacation, so you don't get to do what you want or take photos or anything. I hope you are all well now and will have a chance to return to California soon.

    so sorry about the kidney stone-and away from home too-I have not been further west than Colorado, the ocean view must be awesome there off the highway.
    Love seeing your cards-your food looks delicious-I made has fajitas today one of our favorites.

    Oh, and Mexican Food! So long ago - we have a new one I´ll check for a lunch break soon, though (Ingo hates it).

    Sorry I am so late visiting. I now have four cats and two households to take care of, and each night I visit Sally at the hospital till they throw me out. She finally got a room late last night. Before that she was stuck in the ER on a cot.

    So sorry to read about the kidney stone. I hope you are now feeling better. AWE, PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). Brings back memories of traveling it. I also did it for work as well as for vacations.

    Chili Rellenos are MY favorite, too. I eat them any time I visit a Mexican restaurant. They can be rather mild or hot, so I agree it probably wasn't the best meal with the kidney stone.

    I really love all your cards, but I especially like the card that I'm sure "Dennis" felt honored by.

    Sweet tea can be fun, especially at Firehouse Subs, a sub shop we don't have here. Thanks for sharing your trip to CA, your chili relleno, your lovely cards, and your tea with us for T this week, dear Nancy. I truly hope you are feeling much better now.

    I've had kidney stones so know what that pain is like. I wish there was a sure way to avoid them. I drink a lot of water every day, but I don't know what else I can do...

    The food looks tasty!

      They told me at the hospital to make sure to increase my calcium intake as the stones are calcium crystals. They said it was counter-intutitve to prevent crystals with more calcium but that it works. I have increased my water and my calcium.

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

 I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

 On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him.
