Patriotic Art, Blueberry Lemonade, and Loaded Fried Green Tomatoes

So happy to have an extra day off.  Thankful to all those who fought and died for freedom around the world.  War has so many costs, and we take the sacrifices for granted.  Here is my card to celebrate the day.

I made it after watching  a video from THIS YouTube spray paint artist.  I watercolored the base, but then I did take some crumpled paper dipped in whte paint, blue paint and black ink and dabbed it over the watercolor.  Then I sponged on some black ink.  I added Stickle stars after stamping the Thank You for Your Service Stamp (new from DRS Designs).

Continuing the military theme, a friend asked me to make a congrats card for one of his friends who has recently been promoted in the U.S. Air Force.  I used the new Air Force Proud image. This card was inspired by THIS card by Caterina who is this week's Featured Stamper on Splitcoaststampers.com.

Since it is late Monday, I am also including my ticket to T-day over at Elizabeth's Blog.  I went to lunch with some friends on Friday and ordered the blueberry lemonade at The Wharf Restaurant in Montgomery.  It was very refreshing.
I also had the fish tacos, but the star of the lunch was the loaded fried green tomatoes which we all shared.  I didn't take a picture of them but here is one from their website.  They top fried green tomatoes with feta, bacon, green onions, and a sauce.  We fought over them.

I still remember how wonderful the fried tomatoes were at Joe's Stone Crab in Miami, but these loaded ones topped them and were cheaper. I plan to get them again soon.

Happy T-day and hope you have a wonderful week!

Nancy

  1. Adding those goodies to the fried green tomatoes sounds great. They are really a southern dish -- we don't see them much on menus here in Michigan.

  10. Both of your cards are fabulous, but the first one may be my favorite, especially since I checked out the link to the planet spray paint artist. The Air Force card is lovely, too, but I can't possibly believe you were inspired by the card with the tennis shoes. They look nothing even similar.

Your blueberry lemonade looks lovely and it is apparently one of their featured drinks. I haven't had fried green tomatoes in years. I used to make them myself at the end of the year or the beginning, but they looked NOTHING like the ones you and your colleagues fought over (grin). Thanks for sharing your cards, the links, and your lemonade and fried green tomatoes with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy.

  11. What a beautiful card (Both, but I really like the spray painted one).
The fried green tomatoes sound delicious. I've never had fried green tomatoes. I eat green tomatoes in a salad, but never fried. Must try it one day...
    Happy T-Day,

  17. Hi Nancy, I love your cards, and especially the first one, it looks super cool. I've never had blueberry lemonade before, blueberries are quite expensive here but I do have some growing in the garden. I might try making it if I get a bumper crop. Sorry I'm late, having commenting problems with blogger.
    Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

Brotherhood Wishes, a Paper Purse, and a Special Mug

Hello friends. No more fun travel or parade pictures - back to every day normal life.  On a positive note, I have been able to fit in some art. Hereis an art journal spread I finished this weekend. I am adding it to Alison's Summer Landscape challenge theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* .   I started the pages in my journal around July 4th after seeing Dina's stripes inspired Mixed Media challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com and got as far as stamping some foliage at the bottom.  I was stuck after that, and I wasn't sure where to go with it next.  A few days later, I was clearing out some things in the craft room and ran across a Thomas Kinkade book I cut up and use in my Bible Journaling.  There was a picture of  the San Francisco Bridge and another of some mountains so I tore them out and added them to my page with Gesso representing some of the beautiful things in America and also Alison's countryside theme.  They did not blend in very well and I needed to alter them to wo

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This
