A Ruby Slipper, Eggs Benedict, and a Flying Car

Hello friends.

A few weeks ago, hubby and I set off on one of our nothing really planned vacations.  We had so much fun doing it last year touring around Tennessee and Kentucky.  This year we tackled Georgia.  We knew we wanted to do the top of the state and Savannah plus find at least one lobster roll (we did), but that was the extent of our plans.

Our route took us through the top of Alabama.  On our way, we stopped in Birmingham, Alabama for breakfast.   I quickly googled best breakfast and found the Ruby Slipper/Ruby Sunshine Restaurant.   This was my coffee and my ticket to Elizabeth's T-day Linky party.
I ordered the Trifecta so I could try several of their eggs benedict.
The shrimp one was my favorite.  Hubby had biscuits and gravy. I loved mine, but he wasn't impressed.

Right next to our table was this fun sign/sculpture.
Not sure if they have a Dorothy love or they just are being cool, but I love the fun logos and name.  It was a fun way to start the vacation.  Right before we left, I looked up great places to stay in the top left corner of Georgia and I found one of the Harry Potter themed houses.  I actually saw it was available on Sunday night which is right when we were going to be there.  I tried to book one of her Harry Potter themed housed years ago, but it was booked up for over a year so I gave up. When I saw its availability, I felt it was fate and I booked it.  Next week I will share pictures (I have to run to work and will be back to visit everyone tonight), but here is a sneak peek:
We got to park right in front of Ron's flying car. In this picture you can kind of make out Harry's trunk and owl cage. So fun!

Hugz,

Nancy

  5. Mr. M. and I used to be spontaneous and just go go go. Those days are over so it is nice to see that you still do. Have a very nice day today.

  6. Sounds like you had a fun trip. I can’t wait to see the Harry Potter house. And hear about your lobster roll too. I’m having a hankering for one and I haven’t been to pops for awhile. The last time we tried to go the line was excessively long but your breakfast looks yummy and like something I would try. Hope your T day is going well. Hugs Erika

  7. Sounds like a fun vacation when you are spontaneous. I haven't done a trip like that because we have children but it sounds like something for when we are empty nesters. I can't wait to see your Harry Potter themed house, it sounds intriguing.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  8. Cool idea to just take off! And oh, you make me hungry and I love that shoe.
Please don´t get mad. I never read/saw Harry Potter (reckon you know that already).
But I look forward to the pics anyways! Hugz and happy T-Day!

  9. I'm like Iris and never read a HP book or saw a HP film. However, I am thrilled you got to stay at a HP themed house.

Ruby Slipper/Ruby Sunshine sounds great. Not the kind of slippers Dorothy wore, but I love both the concept and the sculpture. I'm a big fan of hollandaise sauce, so I think I would get the Trifecta, too. Looks like you drink your coffee almost as white as I drink mine.

Thanks for sharing your trip to northwest GA at Ruby Slipper, and your sneak peek at the GA HP house where you stayed for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy.

  11. That's our way to travel whenever possible, without completely planned out. I would have gone for the Trifecta as well - and now, of course, I'm hungry. Happy T day!

  15. In our "younger" days, Jim would always want to just hop in the car and go with no planning! Me, Not so much! After a few mishaps doing it his way... We found it it's much better to plan...smile. (Even those don't always work) I liked your shared pictures. Your blog is always so interesting! Hope you having a great summer (and keeping cool!

  17. Great that you got a room right next to Ron's flying car. I think the worst Harry Potter hype is just over, it's easier to book there now. Your largely unplanned journey form sounds great and your Trifecta looks so delicious!
All the best from Austria and belated happy T,
    Traude

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. My tag is made from an old cardboard box top which I peeled down, painted, distressed a bit, and then added some snow medium. My bow is actually a new bow designed by Pamela Lehto (available at Squigglefly tomorrow). Please join us in the Pattie's Creations Tag Challenge - there are lovely DT tags for inspiration and Pattie gives away wonderful prizes! Hugz!

Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him. They have planes, tanks, and other vehicles there too so you can see exactly what ...
