Tea, Big Cats, The Grinch, and a Christmas Wreath

It is T-day over at Elizabeth's Blog so here I am sharing a recent drink.  This is my hot tea at the local Japanese Habachi Restaurant where we celebrated my oldest Grandson turning 8.  This was actually his 3rd or 4th get-together for his birthday.  If he wasn't such an wonderful kid, he would be horribly obnoxious with all the spoiling he gets. It was his third or fourth cake too. 

I ordered Oolong as I was kind of feeling a little under the weather and thought it might help.  It did.  We had a wonderful time. 

I ended up coming down with strep throat and a double ear infection so last week was a lot of laying on the couch for me.  I did bnge watched some Harry Potter and all the episodes of 1883.  Elsa may be one of my favorite characters of all time. I hope there really were young women with that open of a heart and that strong a spirit. I could listen to that actress read her thoughful words all day long.  

I did feel a tiny bit better on the weekend so, of course, I did some art.  

This ATC was done for a Swap theme of "inspired by any song."  I sketched the eye and stripes with a Sharpie pen and then colored the remainder with Daniel Smith Watercolors and some Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  A bit of white gel pen, black Micron Pen, and Versamark sprinkled with clear EP finished it off. 


I did the ATC after I made this lion eye card for my middle Grandson who plays for the Prattville Lions and has been struggling in the heat at practice.  The words are from Eye of the Tiger (he will know that as he is a big music fan), but he will like that I twisted it to Lions for him. 

I also cased THIS beautiful Grinch card by Mimi as she is the Featured Stamper over at Splitcoaststampers.com this week.  I LOVE her talent and style and could watch her videos all day long.  
Lastly, I caught up on the watercolor and inspiration challenges at Splitcoaststampers.com where the focus was on leaf strokes.  I painted several different colors of the easiest leaves, and then added in some twigs and berries. I didn't like the background I originally painted so I fussy cut the wreath, sponged it around with distress ink, and popped it up on an embossed and sponged panel.

    Sorry to hear you have been under the weather — I hope your recovery is complete! Doing Christmas images in August seems odd, but I guess that’s how to get them done.

    8 already - time does run!
    I just cuddled a baby and she turns 14 and is a teenager to full blast (I heard it all over the phone).
    Yay for Oolong, will keep that in mind!
    You will (maybe) make me watch Hatty Potter!
    The Eye of the Tiger is a whole different story, reminding me of the Klitschko-Brothers. And the real - stupid war - Russia started.
    It frightens me. We might be next and.. It´s not ... which war is fair???

    Christmas is just around the corner!
    I´ll try to not be a Grinch :-)

    Sorry you had a strep throat, that's not good.. In Israel we used to give the kids fresh goat milk for strep throat and it really helped. But it must be freshly milked and quickly drunk.Your crafting is beautiful, love the Grinch, and the eye of he tiger! Have a great week and a happy T Day, Valerie

    Your cards are beautiful and I am glad that you are feeling better. Strep and a Bilateral Ear Infection is the worst! I love the tiger eye the most. My daughter loves tigers.

    Sorry to hear you were under the weather Nancy. It doesn't sound fun. Feeling under the weather in the summer with the heat always seems to make it worse. I loved 1883 also. The whole show was great, but you are right about Elsa. And your grandson is so lucky! That's a lot of celebrating, but then, everyone should celebrate big time and enjoy their birthday.     Strep throat sounds bad, Nancy. I hope you are better soon, dear. I know that could not be good. Sorry I am late visiting. I spent time in an ice bath trying to help my back I hurt during the neighborhood clean up. Even though I bent with my knees, I felt something go when I stood up.

    I love your awesome cards, especially the Lion one. I was born in Lyons, KS and of course our mascot was a lion. That Christmas wreath is unbelievable and I love the Grinch, too.

    The first tea I ever remember drinking was Oolong, so I am sure it helped. Thanks for sharing your amazing cards and your tea with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy.

    Hi Nancy,sorry I’m late visiting, you wasn’t around when I was in my craft room, thanks for your earlier visit. Sorry to hear you’ve been ill, my DH had a sore throat for a week but no other symptoms thankfully , your wreath is gorgeous as is your ATCs, I always struggle making them for some reason.

    Dear Nancy,
    belated happy birthday to your grandson! I'm sorry you felt unwell after the party - I wasn't quite up to it last week either. But sometimes resting and watching TV isn't too bad either ;-) I had to google which series "1883" is. Sounds interesting, but doesn't seem to be available in the German-speaking streaming area yet. It's great that you were fit enough to make art again!
    You wrote to me in the last post that you thought your comment didn't go through - oh, it did! Everything ok, it came through, but still had to be moderated by me...

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

 I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

 On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him.
