T is for Thinking of Spring

Hello friends,

I got the results from my blood work after doing a month of no alcohol, desserts, bread, chips, processed meats, soda, etc. and adding in way more veggies and fruit. Turns out eating healthier really does work. All my numbers improved including my blood pressure. I guess I will continue with this journey.

It feels like Spring here so we are trying to take advantage of it. Speaking of Spring, over at the Art Nudge Challenge it looks like Spring as well.  Here is my creation based on #artnudge225A

And here is the inspiration photo that inspired it:

I was inspired by some of the colors and the flowers.  I sketched out the vase, table and flowers, and I used Daniel Smith Watercolors, a Black Micron Pen, Tim Holtz Distress Oxide (mustard seed) and some watered-down white gouache to color it up. The sentiment is an old favorite from Stamping Up! This is going to a friend who needs a big hug.

The Art Nudge Challenge is open to all artists and is not just for card makers. You can art journal, sculpt, make ATCs, do acrylic, watercolor, or mixed media, sew, knit, etc. There are wonderful prizes too. Just make sure to link up your creation to the Art Nudge website before the end of February. There will also be 3 inspiration photos to inspire you - this is just the first one of the month.

It is Wednesday and I am late again posting to the T-day linky-party over at Elizabeth's Blog:  Altered Book Lover. Better late than never right?  Happy T-day! To participate in the party, you need to have something related to a drink in your post.

I broke my favorite morning mug a few weeks ago and my new favorite is this Dunoon China Spitfire mug. I bought it a few years ago after seeing a post by one of the T-day participants showing a display of Dunoon in a shop in Germany. I actually bought it for hubby, but he never uses it.  This morning it is full of coffee (I didn't give up coffee - lol).

Here are some of my favorite cards from the last week. The first one was done for the Featured Stamper Challenge on splitcoaststampers.com.  I cased THIS pretty card done by auntof8. I made the main branches and bird housed out of scrap papers, watercolored the background with Daniel Smith watercolors and white gouache, drew in some berry branches, stamped in some bits of journaling and a sentiment, and covered everything in Snowtex.

This card was made for last week's color challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com. I was fortunate enough to be asked to be a guest designer for January and February. I included the challenge colors in the ice cubes and the drink. I sketched this one on some regular paper, water colored it, and added Stickles to the ice cubes. The sentiment was typed up, printed, and cut into pieces.

I hosted the Friday F4A challenge last Friday at splitcoaststampers.com. Our inspiration was the letter 'H'. I included a hydrangea and the word 'Hello'. The flowers were loosely painted and then outlined with a micron pen. I embossed the centers with a Versamark pen and some white embossing powder. The sentiment is heat embossed, and I finished it up with Tim Holtz distress ink on the edge of the painting.

Hope you all have a lovely week and thank you for visiting.

Hugz,

Nancy

  2. Hi Nancy, congrats on the good blood work results, it does make a difference doesn't it. You asked me last week about my avocado brownies and what the avocado was replacing. I answered in this week's post and there's a photo of the brownies too :) I love all your beautiful cards, it's hard to choose a favourite but perhaps the birdhouses or the yellow tulips. I have been to Dunoon, it is a nice drive up the coast from here. Happy T Day!

  3. Yesterday I scratched my retina and was unable to see out of either eye because they both teared up. I was glad to see you were late visiting like me and thrilled to see your good results of giving up junk food and drink. I am so impressed with all your cards. I especially like the bourbon one. And of course, your mug is pretty awesome. Glad your husband didn't like it as much as you. Thanks for sharing your amazing cards and mug of coffee with us for T this week, dear Nancy.

  8. The vase full of tulips is so nice! Spring seems to be just around the corner (written while a heavy snow shower happens outside). Thanks for commenting on my birds. Yes, practicing is important in sketching and drawing. Looking back on birds, I drew in 2020, when I started over with drawing, I can tell the difference it makes.

Stamps, Books, Found Relatives, and More Food

Don't you love getting new stuff?  This is my fun new stuff from  Red Lead Paperworks .   I ordered the fun vintage looking deer stamp and the three Christmas greetings - all were on sale a few weeks ago.  I love getting their packages because they always send some extra little goodies like collage sheets and old tickets plus even their packaging is cute and reusable.  The sheet with the leaves and acorns on the bottom is the other side of the invoice so you can reuse it as well.  I can't wait to play with these fun goodies.  Here is a look at my current reading pile.  I checked Basil's War by Stephen Hunter from the library, my daughter lent me The Paper Palace, and I bought The Host, Going Back to Petrey, and The Lady in Blue from the Thrift Store. I am reading Basil's War and The Lady in Blue at the same time - something I really shouldn't do especially since both books are the kind that switch between stories every chapter.  Th...

Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. My tag is made from an old cardboard box top which I peeled down, painted, distressed a bit, and then added some snow medium. My bow is actually a new bow designed by Pamela Lehto (available at Squigglefly tomorrow). Please join us in the Pattie's Creations Tag Challenge - there are lovely DT tags for inspiration and Pattie gives away wonderful prizes! Hugz!
