Lines, Birds, a Wreath, Two Gnomes, and a Dog!

Catching up after last week's power loss  - Zeta knocked out all the power and internet in our area for several days.  Only one tree down and it barely touched my car with just a few little scratches.... several trees look shaky though and another one looks like it is headed this way next week....


I did do another lines page in my bible and intended to post it to **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* where we were playing with lines (October prompt), but the power made me miss it. I wanted to share it because I used birthday goodies sent to me by my sweet friend Jayne and I love the colors.  Super simple: Gesso base, gesso on the music/architectural paper (from Jayne), gesso on the crayon paper (from Jayne), stamp the DRS Design pencils and water color them, slap on some more water colors and done.  Fun tuff.

The page is James 3 and 4 which are about controlling your tongue and heart and understanding that God values humility and hates the proud.  I like to think of Mother Teresa and her selfless love she had for everyone - she very much patterned her life after Christ.  Something we should all do - it is a good idea whatever religion or non-religion we follow as a humble spirit is a BEAUTIFUL thing.  I also think of how we want to draw our own lines so much - I do it often.  I need to be careful....

So now onto this month's **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* prompt which is birds and was chosen by Wendy K (so love her thoughtful and creative stories and pages).  Here is my first birds page, and I am working on another now.  First I put down a layer of Gesso, then the Dina Wakley Scribble Bird was stamped (I drew in a few more lines) and water-colored.  The tree, crackle marks, and birds are a Stamperia stencil, the flower sun is a stencil from  Magenta, and the numbers and letters are from an Andy Skinner Industrial Elements stencil. I water-colored all the elements and the sky and drew in the shadow.  

This is Psalms 109 - I have four more pages in Psalms and I am done!!!  This is a prayer for punishment of the wicked.  Kind of makes me uncomfortable as when I have wished punishment for the wicked, I feel very bad as I really believe judgement like that is all in God's territory as we can't see the whole picture and we don't know the hearts of others.  Still it is hard....judgement of others is something I struggle with and I know that if I were judged by my so call standards, I fall seriously short.  Our measuring sticks will be used against us one day.....

Also made some cards this past week.  My first one is a coral and shell wreath.  I fussy cut all the DRS Design elements (3-in-1 Ocean Floor Designs, and 4-in-1 Seashells, Christmas Light String) with some grade school scissors so it was tough!  Need to straighten out the craft room and find my snips!  I even fussy cut the light string.....it was tough!  Layered it all up and then used the new "Shell"ebrate the Season Greeting.   Super easy card. 

This next card was made with my sweet grandson, Lewis.  We did a quick water-color background and splatter, then stamped the DRS Designs Paper Coffee Cup, Peeking Gnome, Snowflakes, and the new Gnome for the Holidays Greeting.  I water-colored everything and did a bit of sponging and it was done. 


This last card is a tent topper card with recycled elements from an old birthday card.  Old papers too.  This is going off to an 8 year old boy recovering from multiple surgeries.  Looks like he is on the mend now.  So hard to even think about a child suffering!!!!

    Glad to read you are back up and running Nancy and even more so that after Zeta you are all unharmed.     I hate losing power for days. So glad to hear you are back. And so glad you shared the line page too. The pencils on the edge of the page are great. Plus I love the bird page. What a happy bird. Yellow was a great choice with these shorter darker days. You are made some gorgeous cards. I like shell wreath for the holidays and that tail wagger. Too cute!     Well Nancy, you have made up for being off line with all these beauties. I love your two Bible Journal pages, lovely colours that you have used.
    The cards are great too - the shell one is so pretty with its muted shades (but it reminded me that last week Sean Connery, who is the only Bond for me, passed - he spoke like that ) and I love the gnomes but that dog - he is so funny who could not love that card!!

    I love your ring bound bible journal! Both pages are wonderful but I must say those scribbly birds are so lovely and here in yellow is so sweet! Perfect to cheer us up at AJJ! I have gessoed some pages but so far haven't gone back to mine .
    I love the 'Shell -ebrate' card and your grandson must have had fun with those gnomes! The tail wagging dog made me smile - my uncle used to have a dog with a tail that used to wag like crazy! Glad you have electric now, it must have been tough without! Hope you are having a relaxing weekend, Chrisx

    All of your cards are incredible. I really love the word play with shells, but I have to admit the coffee mug with the gnomes is my real favorite. I agree that no child should suffer, not like you describe it, at least.

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. My tag is made from an old cardboard box top which I peeled down, painted, distressed a bit, and then added some snow medium. Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

 I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

 On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him. They have planes, tanks, and other vehicles there too so you can see exactly what ...
