Chickens, Angels and Snowflakes

 Hello friends,

This past week the Tea Party Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com was all about Rhode Island as the recipient of our cards is from RI.  I decided to try and paint a rooster.  Try is the key word - I need a lot of practice but I finished it and did a matching BAJ page in Hebrews. My background was from the SCS Watercolor Challenge: Emboss Resist with Watercolor Powders (I used Brushos).

I watched THIS video but my rooster looks nothing like hers! I finished it and I am calling that success.  The card recipient is battling cancer so I decided the card should be a little upbeat so I added a chicken crossing the road joke.  Inside it says, "because it was free range."

In the challenge, they mentioned that the Rhode Island motto is "Hope."  What a great motto.  I looked up the story behind it, and one theory is that it is after Hebrews 6: 18-19 so I decided to journal that page in my Bible and add a chicken.  Lovely words.

I liked my BAJ rooster less than the card one so I decided to put him in a snow storm - we all need hope in snow storms and I am guessing having cancer makes you feel like you are in a storm.  Linking to **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY*  "THE MEANING OF"  theme by Tracey.

I also found a page in Psalms that I had not done - must have stuck to another page when I flipped through. Also I found two pages I started but never colored in so I will have to do them soon too.  To finish off the page I had not started, I did a quick faceless angel using some colors left over on my pallet after painting my chicken card.

I stenciled on some artsy "magical" circles and gessoed on some hymnal pages.  Psalms 131 is sooo sweet.  I have had some crazy days lately and I feel like my soul is a little quieter after painting this.

Finished up my creating with another card too - inspired by THIS card by French Martin - the Featured Stamper at Splitcoaststampers.com this week.  Emboss resist with watercolor powders again. Used purple from THIS knit picture.

Thanks for visiting and many happy holiday hugz to you!

Nancy

  2. Oh you did a good job with the rooster. I think that is a funny challenge because I am sure there are people who don't know much of anything about Rhode Island. I guess you could look things up though. And I love your angel too. And your cards. OK, you have some super art in this post Nancy. You have been very inspired. Merry Christmas if you don't post before then. And thanks for joining us for Tracey's challenge at Art Journal Journey. Hugs-Erika

  6. Those coloured feather strokes on the cockrill really give him some zest Nancy, yes we all need hope even when life is easier, it's good to keep us on our toes. The angel is so delightful I can see why she has given you calm whilst painting, amazing how some creations can heal our creative souls during the process. The wording on your snowflake card is extremely uplifting. Beautiful shares..

  11. Both roosters turned out so pretty, Nancy. The card is fun and your bible page is beautiful. Of course, the angel is special, too. I agree that she is calming. We all need hope, especially in this time of uncertainty. I'm sorry I'm late visiting. Life got in the way of computer time. Thanks for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey using Tracey's theme.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day....

Dreams of Fall, Numbers, and a Cool Drink

I hate to admit it, but I am already looking forward to Fall!  That is also the theme for this House Mouse card I finished up today. I stamped this 2009 Turning Over a New Leaf (Monica) image on the envelope too because the current House Mouse & Friends Monday Challenge #392 theme is decorate your envelope too.  On the card, I stamped the image, popped up some of the leaves and drew in some branches.  The background and leaves are watercolored with DOX ink.  Monica is colored with pencils and watercolor.   I sure wished it was Fall on Saturday when we were watching our youngest grandson at the 6U All Star State Championship. It was very hot. His team lost in the semi-finals. We were very proud of how hard they played. Speaking of baseball, I did two pages on our two All-Stars. I am linking them up to the Numbers theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* .  I have numbers in the journaling and there are numbers on their jerseys.   The All Stars cap ...

Halloween Lunch Pictures and Some Art

Happy T-day! Our favorite local restaurant is Fox's Pizza Den where they have great pizza, sandwiches, pasta and salads. They also have a Bourbon Bar.  Prices range from $7 to almost $1,000 on the bourbon and bourbon drinks.   Each holiday, the bourbon bar comes up with fun holiday themed drinks and they decorate the bar too.  A few weeks ago, we headed there for lunch and to try one of the new drinks.  Here is the holiday drink menu and my tickets to T-day over at Elizabeth's Blog where we share our fun drink related items from the week.  Of course, my daughter loves vampire books and movies so she picked the blood bag. I go more for taste so I got the Meet Your Maker - it was wonderful.   We shared a pizza and a salad.  I forgot to take a picture of the pizza, but I did get one of the salad. It had grilled chicken and potato wedges - super fun.  They make their ranch dressing on site and it is wonderful.  My husband has been know...
