Books, Wine, and Jeolousy

I love a good wine and a good book. Tonight, I am raising a glass of this fun Bear Flag Eureka! Red to all my T-day friends and everyone else bold enough to see what is on the kitchen counter and check out why I am jealous.

These are the tasting notes on the wine:

Blending the best bold California reds, Bear Flag Eureka! Red Blend delivers notes of ripe plum and boysenberry jam one moment and hints of graham crackers and milk chocolate the next. Abundant hints of complex spices and a tease of candied orange zest lend a hand in putting this plush red blend in a category of its own.

I have had a few sips tonight, and I caught the plum and chocolate notes, but I am still waiting for the graham cracker note. I am definitely a fan.

The pile of books on my kitchen counter is most the books I have read in 2022.  I think I read the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon in late 2021, but it was on the kitchen counter so it went in the pile.  My favorite was Lucky's Beach (lighthearted, fun, and surprising) followed by Where the Crawdads Sing (sad but happy too - she was so strong and so talented).  Natchez Burning and Isabel Allende Daughter of Fortune were good too (deep and scary when you think about how evil people really are).  Actually, all of them were good even that old I Dare You book Allie bought me at an estate sale.

So why am I jealous?  Allie, my youngest daughter, is in Paris and I have to admit, I am getting more and more jealous.  Here she is in a vintage car doing a tour with a fun tour guide who took them to buy flowers, see the tower, and then tons of hidden treasures.  They ended up loving the tour guide and they are now friends forever. They even gave him the flowers to give to his girlfriend.  So fun!

He bought them macaroons....

The pictures are super fun and I am making each of the girls a scrapbook (Allie and her friend Charity) so when they come back Friday they will have something to remember their trip.

Also made a page for my other daughter who recently went on a date with her husband.
I made all these pages using the new In Full Bloom paper from Close to My Heart - I am ordering another pack today!

A fun Art Journal spread to finish off my weekend - some 3-d paper eggs made with paper, markers, and gel medium.  I also ordered some fun digital coffee images - aren't they cute? Made a card too (paper from the same Close to My Heart Paper and Sticker Pack).  I have a few flowers on my page and the pages above so I am linking this to **Art*Journal*Journey* and Valerie's Spring Theme.

I finally got the graham cracker note in the Bear Flag Eureka! Red - I totally recommend this wine. Have a great week and a super St. Pat's day!

  1. Paris seems to be totally opening up again. I'd love to go there soon, and see my friends and my favorite neighborhoods. Your daughter looks like she's having a great time.

  2. You have made such beautiful scrapbook pages - I'm sure they will love it. That vintage car is a 2CV - they were around when I was a kid and a teenager (does that make me vintage, too?), also called "Ente" (duck) and were extremely loved. One of my friends who studied Chinese with me drove a 2CV and called it "Beijing duck" with the appropriate Chinese characters painted on the back of the car. You just sent me down memory lane.
Enjoy the wine! California grows some great reds.

  3. Oh I would be jealous too. In fact, just reading she is there is makes me jealous. Smile. And your books sound great too. The only one I have read is Where the Crawdads Sing, which I really enjoyed. And you've made some beautiful art this week. I am loving them both, and those coffee cups are fun, and perfect for these morning after the time change until we adjust. Thanks for sharing that with us for Valerie's challenge at AJJ. I hope you have a wonderful T day and week ahead, and I hope you don't end up too too jealous either. You'll just have to plan a trip one day. Me too. hugs-Erika

  6. You've been busy Nancy, the wine sounds lovely and it looks like you have been reading some super books. Hubby treated me to a kindle for my Birthday a couple of years ago, I wasn't sure that I would like it as I love books, the only problem was they were taking over the house, especially during lockdown - well I surprised myself and absolutely love it, I am reading so much more and the fact that I can change the font size makes it so much easier with my Macular Degeneration.
Fabulous scrapbook pages and a super journal layout.

  9. That wine sounds great, even if I'm not a wine drinker. Of course, I am in awe of the scrapbook pages you created for your daughter and her friend while they are in Paris. It's definitely on my list of places I want to visit some day. She makes it look like fun and she certainly brightens up any photo! Your other daughter looks like she has lost a lot of weight.

LOVED the coffee pages. They are cute with those eggs. Thanks for sharing your wine, your two daughters and friends journal pages, your books, none of which I have heard of, and your coffee pages with us for T this Tuesday. Also, thank you so much for sharing your pages with us using Valerie's theme at AJJ.

  10. How wonderful that your daughter is in Paris and doing really fun things too! That vintage car is a Citroen 2CV. I have great memories of that car. People called it 'the ugly duck' and it had amazing suspension and the seats came out. My best friend had one and we have been on many picnics. The car could be driven off road because of the suspension. hey ho, here we come. Most of them had a linen top that came off. Anyway, sweet memories.
Your scrapbook looks really lovely and your daughter and her friend are going to love it.
Your coffee pages are cute. Those eggs are really something!
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,

  19. I love that you are making scrapbooks for your daughter and her friend! Paris is beautiful at any time of year but the Spring blossom makes it especially beautiful right now. I don't want to add to your jealousy but I am hoping that the blossoms lasts a couple more weeks as we will be there the first week in April. The wine you are drinking sounds delicious and your pile of books is impressive. Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx

  20. What a lovely thing to do - making those books for the girls when they return. Your daughter is a very beautiful young woman and she looks as if she really had a marvellous time in Paris. One of my favourite places, was only saying this afternoon (watching Joanna Lumley visiting Paris) how much we have missed the place. I love macarons from there, I wonder whose macarons they were as there are two places I know of that make the best!
    Thanks for sharing

  22. So you seem to love books as much as I do. (I have read about 500 books in 6 0r 7 years...
Some were short novels...others over 500 pages... Last year I did very little reading...
eye proplems... It is a bit better now. It made me appreciate more the priviledge of being able to read. The book in your pile of books that I read was the one by Dela Owens...
Very said book! Most of the time I try to read the Happier books...smile.

Your pages are wonderful, and girls looks lovely. I've never been to Paris...but my hubby was when he was in the military.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day....

Dreams of Fall, Numbers, and a Cool Drink

I hate to admit it, but I am already looking forward to Fall!  That is also the theme for this House Mouse card I finished up today. I stamped this 2009 Turning Over a New Leaf (Monica) image on the envelope too because the current House Mouse & Friends Monday Challenge #392 theme is decorate your envelope too.  On the card, I stamped the image, popped up some of the leaves and drew in some branches.  The background and leaves are watercolored with DOX ink.  Monica is colored with pencils and watercolor.   I sure wished it was Fall on Saturday when we were watching our youngest grandson at the 6U All Star State Championship. It was very hot. His team lost in the semi-finals. We were very proud of how hard they played. Speaking of baseball, I did two pages on our two All-Stars. I am linking them up to the Numbers theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* .  I have numbers in the journaling and there are numbers on their jerseys.   The All Stars cap ...

Halloween Lunch Pictures and Some Art

Happy T-day! Our favorite local restaurant is Fox's Pizza Den where they have great pizza, sandwiches, pasta and salads. They also have a Bourbon Bar.  Prices range from $7 to almost $1,000 on the bourbon and bourbon drinks.   Each holiday, the bourbon bar comes up with fun holiday themed drinks and they decorate the bar too.  A few weeks ago, we headed there for lunch and to try one of the new drinks.  Here is the holiday drink menu and my tickets to T-day over at Elizabeth's Blog where we share our fun drink related items from the week.  Of course, my daughter loves vampire books and movies so she picked the blood bag. I go more for taste so I got the Meet Your Maker - it was wonderful.   We shared a pizza and a salad.  I forgot to take a picture of the pizza, but I did get one of the salad. It had grilled chicken and potato wedges - super fun.  They make their ranch dressing on site and it is wonderful.  My husband has been know...
