Baseball, a Birthday, Mexican Food, Beer, Wine, and Art

Hello friends.

This past week was filled with a special birthday, baseball, mexican food (always), a few cool drinks, work, art, and some shopping.

My youngest Grandson turned 5.  Time flies.  He asked for an Atlanta Braves themed cake and the party was at a super fun jumping/obstacle course/playhouse.  Isn't this cake fabulous? It was made by our cake artist friend, Amy.  Her cakes are super yummy and very cool.

The birthday boy is on the right.  These are my three Grandsons.  We have entered baseball season - 2 games a week and a few tournaments thrown in.
Hubby agreed to go shopping with me so we could pick out new "baseball chairs" and a foldable wagon to pull them in.  We needed sturdy chairs, and I wanted one that rocks.  Now, we just have to lift a few more weights so we can actually get the wagon in and out of my car - lol.  Along the way, I talked him into stopping at a local Mexican restaurant.  He ordered his usual 2 chicken soft tacos, but I ordered something different.  Spinach fajitas with extra avocado.
Plus a Modela  - an old favorite.  Also my ticket to the T-day party over at Elizabeth's blog
The wine of the week - I totally want to do an art journal page or card using this label as my inspiration.
Some art too.  This is the card I made for Hollis' birthday.  He asked for a tractor for his birthday so I thought this would be perfect (we had to get him a monster truck since 3 others already got tractors).
I lost my glasses during the week and had to order another pair - I thought I would commemorate this first time ever loss with a fun card.  The sentiment is a velum one from Art Stacks.  The flowers are from DRS Designs.
Looks like a fun week, but, of course, I just shared the fun parts.  The rest was chores and work and did think you would want to see pictures of warranty contracts, water heater orders, or laundry - lol.  Hope you had lots of fun moments in your week too.

Hugz,

Nancy

  1. Wine labels often show very creative art ideas. I have to admit that when it's my turn to buy wine, that's often a real selling point. I can see why you like the one you showed today.

Happy birthday to the birthday boy! Great-looking cake.

  2. Wow, what a cake. Your friend is an amazing artist. And those boys are adorable. I remember baseball and soccer seasons when my daughter was little. Those were fun times, and sometimes awful times if the bugs were bad or if it was really cold...but still good memories. I love your tractor card and loss of glasses card. It's a pain when you can't see. As a full time glasses wearer I can relate. Have a great T day. I'd take that fajita too. hugs-Erika

  5. It's always hard to decide on what to eat at a Mexican restaurant, but your fajitas look like a delicious choice. Baseball! I remember when my kids played when they were little. Fond memories. Fun photos.

Cute boys and weee, it seems to be warm in your place!
Oh, I love Mexican food! I think I must find out if they do take away (Hubby hates it).
The beer looks interesting, too. And the tractor is cute!!! Awww.
You lost your glasses?! How?! I once misplaced them. But butt found them - glad my Brother is an optometrist!

  10. aw what sweet grandsons. Happy birthday to the youngest- a fabulous looking cake, card and birthday! I love Mexican food but just don't have it often- both your choices sound so good!!! Great cards- too bad about losing your glasses though. perhaps they'll turn up and then you'll have a spare pair:) Good luck with all the lugging around all the chairs and such for the baseball games. Happy T day!

  11. I am in total awe of your baker friend Amy. She is incredibly talented and deserves to be recognized for her incredible ART. Happy belated birthday to Hollis.

Your fajitas look wonderful. I can't even buy an avocado in the grocery store, so the restaurant was either selling them at a loss or the extras cost you an arm and a leg. I bet they went well with that beer, though.

Both cards are wonderful. I love the one where you lost your glasses. Reminds me of a saying I once heard, but no longer remember.

I agree that mundane chores are often not documented. However, I do that on my calendar pages, so at least you have bright spots in your week. Thanks for sharing your grandsons, Hollis's cake, your shopping trip, your fajitas, your beer, that wine bottle you want to preserve, and your cards with is for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy,

What a pretty cake. How fun that you have a friend that makes such lovely cakes.

  14. Your spinach fajitas look delicious and I just love some extra avocado. Of course it has to be a Modelo negra when you eat Mexican food - that's my choice as well (even though my favorite still is German beer). Your three grandsons look so cute (they probably wouldn't like that adjective though, I suspect).

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

Brotherhood Wishes, a Paper Purse, and a Special Mug

Hello friends. No more fun travel or parade pictures - back to every day normal life.  On a positive note, I have been able to fit in some art. Hereis an art journal spread I finished this weekend. I am adding it to Alison's Summer Landscape challenge theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* .   I started the pages in my journal around July 4th after seeing Dina's stripes inspired Mixed Media challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com and got as far as stamping some foliage at the bottom.  I was stuck after that, and I wasn't sure where to go with it next.  A few days later, I was clearing out some things in the craft room and ran across a Thomas Kinkade book I cut up and use in my Bible Journaling.  There was a picture of  the San Francisco Bridge and another of some mountains so I tore them out and added them to my page with Gesso representing some of the beautiful things in America and also Alison's countryside theme.  They did not blend in very well and I needed to alter them to wo

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This
