More Lamentations and Some Last Minute Holiday Cards

A bit of a spooky post today....

I started with THIS fun rain scented whipped soap as my inspiration along with the words in Lamentations 3 which are VERY SPOOKY. Seems the writer has pretty much given up and then the hope shines through a bit at the end. I love the poetry of the verses but this was a very sad time in our history.

I started with a layer of gesso, then a layer of gray Gouache colors. Mixed in a bit of yellow and red for fun. Then I put down another layer of gesso and while wet I put down the skull part of a halloween napkin (goes with the words of the verse - I promise). Another layer of gesso and then the words. Needed something fun so I added in a few silver teeth. The skull needed something so I added in a bit of the yellow and painted a few of the dark parts a little darker. Linking to Tracey's theme at **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* - The Meaning Of... Lamentations details out the despair and the hope the Israelites had at that time (and we have today). Things may seem bleak in our darkest hours, but God is always there with His faithful love.

And of course, I have some cards from this weekend to share. This first one is a case of Kath who is this week's Featured Stamper on Splitcoaststampers (HERE is her fabulous card).

Actually, while finding the link to her card, I found the link to her blog post where she details how she made the card and you can see it HERE. I plan to do another case of it soon adding in some more layers like she did plus I am going to get some mica spray for sure! That stuff looks super cool.

I did mask my moon, I did dip my watercolor paper in an inky mix of distress ink and SU! ink. I did stamp on some words and some trees and then I added in flying santa and a few words. Mine is a bit more simple than Kath's but I think it has a fun feel.

One more card to share. This was a quick one with a Graphic 45 Santa.

Done for two challenges: MIX on Splitcoaststampers.com (SNOW made with some type of medium) and Try it on Tuesday which is all about some sparkle. The picture doesn't totally capture it, but this is very sparkly with glitter on the snowflake and some Stickles on the printed snow.

I made the large snowflake with a Gina K stencil and some TH Distress Crackle medium covered in SU! Dazzling Diamonds.

Unopened Mail And My Grocery List

We arrived back from our Las Vegas trip last night so the only thing on my Kitchen Counter is unopened mail and my grocery list. I have looked up the recipes for most the great food we ate (or wish we ate) in Las Vegas including Bacon Waffles and Chicken and Waffles - so my counter top should look awesome tomorrow (or as soon as I get a waffle maker). We had lots of fun in Las Vegas but not as much as Crystal and Joey. If we were still 21 we would have had a blast! No luck with gambling - but I only gained 1 pound which is a miracle!

Christmas Mice

Hello Crafty Friends, Today, I am playing in some fun challenges with this cute card: The current House-Mouse &Friends Monday Challenge HMFMC #461 is Anything Goes with an optional theme of Pastels. I have some pastel paper in my layers. This card was made with ornaments from a SU! set, a cut up sentiment from RedLead Paperworks, and three mice I cut out of the Spellbinders Sew Sweet stamp set. The background was inspired by Jeanne Streiff's MIX challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com last Friday where she asked us to make a background using a die cut as a stencil.

T is For 10 Years of T-Day, Too much food, and The Art (Always the Art)

Hello Friends. Most of today's post is about celebrating 10 years of Elizabeth hosting T-day parties on her blog . If you have visited me before, you know that I regularily participate in T-day where we all post something about a drink of any type (the drink can be anything including water and the post can be a real drink, words, movies, art, etc.) on Tuesday (or Monday lol) and link it to Elizabeth's T-day blog post for the week. This year Elizabeth is asking us to post several things in celebration of the big anniversary. #1. Post a picture of something that makes the number 10. I used 10 art supplies that were near me. I am starting to make more Christmas cards so these were right at hand. #2. Post our regular T-day picture/post. My drink picture today is a lunch we had in Tybee Island last week during our Georgia trip. We ate at Pier 16 . Great food and service. It was our favorite meal during the trip. ...

Oh that is a spooky page but quite a nice one! I don't think I have ever read Lamentations, so for me it is now something I want to go check out. And those holiday cards are total opposite for sure. I definitely need to check out the lamentations, the addition of the stickles is super effective. Journalling a a fabulous way of getting a message across or retelling a story. Fab results. Love those traditional cards, he's such a super Santa, jolly childhood memories.
