Butterflies and a Bear

 Hello friends,

I plan on having even more fun as I get older - Lyn Slater is going to be my inspiration - I love THIS video and THIS story about her. She is 5 years older than me and way more stylish and cool, but I am going to aim to be more like her as she is incrediably fun.  I guess I will have to lose the slouchy pants and get some more interesting clothes and sunglasses!  Lyn inspired my journal page for this week although I think she is fun and dignified.

This page was also inspired by the color challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com this week.  The colors are Call Me Clover, Whisper White and Cajun Craze (with SU! neutrals allowed).  The colors reminded me of butterflies so I cut up some butterflies out of an old butterfly book to  made this fun journal page.  All my green is not clover on my Cajun Craze is more traditional orange in most places, but I am still happy with it and it makes me smile.

The words are from AI and the girls are Tim Holtz dolls. I m linking this to Erika's theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* as I used several of my favorite things:  butterflies, green (my fave color), and dots.

I also made a card using the same techniques as the journal page in my last post:  gesso, tea bags, gesso, sprinkled tea leaves, gesso, brown paint, off white paint, aqua paint, white paint, Snowtex, then a bit of brown paint splatter.  The half bear is a chipboard image from Stamperia (can't wait to use the other half).  The sentiment is on an altered paperclip piece I made after watching THIS video. The sentiment is the new Wild About You Greeting from DRS Designs.

I love the texture on this!  So fun!

Hope you have had a great week.

Hugz,

Nancy

  2. Thanks for the Lyn Slater links, I got distracted by the Youtubes. I liked her cool photographer and the cat too. And she has a blog. I've got some interesting clothes which have been hanging in the wardrobe for many months.
You've made a terrific page with the giant butterflies and the fun ladies with their great message.
    Marvellous colours too.
The next piece has spectacular surfaces and I love the half-bear and his words, it's an impressive cohesive piece.

  4. That is a great video Nancy. She is one stylish and interesting woman. I really like how she does become a role model for older women. In this society we can sure as many role models as possible. She's a couple of years older than me also so you and I are in the same general age group.I am loving your journal page today inspired by that video. I hope those ladies find something really fun to do. Maybe they're visiting a butterfly farm. Or flying off in an aeroplane-in their time period I bet it would be open cockpit. And the bear looks great cut in half and added to that card. What super texture. Hope you have a fun weekend and maybe find some new cool sunglasses. Thanks for sharing with us at AJJ. Hugs-Erika

  9. Here I was trying to catch up, and I HAD to see that video. It was fabulous to see how you made that paper clip add on to the card. I love how you used tea leaves in gesso, too. You have so many clever ideas on this card. I'm definitely going to incorporate them in some of my art.

Of course, I also enjoyed seeing your lovely journal page. That is one big incredible butterfly, and an amazing page, too. Thanks for sharing it with us using Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey.

  11. On Nancy, what have you done to me? I had to go look at this Lyn Slater and now I want to change my entire wardrobe. I just watched one video but already she inspires me to waken up and be who I want to be and stop being so conventional because I think I am too old to wear this and that. (I have branched out into mustard, wine, and blue coloured tights which is a big change from someone who lived in denim jeans - so made a start a while ago but not as adventurous as Lyn). Thank you. I feel more alive having watched hder.
Didn't come here to comment on Lyn Slater though (wondering how old she is, hope I find out - and is that young man her husband?). I came to see your art and I love your butterfly page. What a lovely idea, and the dark tones lift with the touches of orange and that greenish yellow plus I like shades of brown myself. Then there is that card - what a fantastic bear. I cannot wait to see what you do with the other half of him. Mmmm I wonder ...?
    Hugs (and thanks)

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. My tag is made from an old cardboard box top which I peeled down, painted, distressed a bit, and then added some snow medium. My bow is actually a new bow designed by Pamela Lehto (available at Squigglefly tomorrow). Please join us in the Pattie's Creations Tag Challenge - there are lovely DT tags for inspiration and Pattie gives away wonderful prizes! Hugz!

Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him. They have planes, tanks, and other vehicles there too so you can see exactly what ...
