Chickens, A Deer, and Flowers

An eclectic mix of things on the Kitchen Counter today.

This morning's Inspiration Challenge at SCS was the Ellen Hutson site.  I was inspired by THIS wonderful bullet journal idea by Adelina Starface.  I die cut a mask and then sponged 6 squares on the Psalm 71 page in my journaling bible (the God's Help in Old Age Psalm).  Then I stamped the images from some SU! chicken sets (Hey Chick! mainly).  I splatted on some green water color paint and sponged on some green with a chicken wire/honeycomb stencil.  I wrote in some sayings about old age - most are funny.

Since I had the set out and lots of cardboard, I made a card too.  The background is ink/spray/smash technique with some Distress Oxides.  Next I made a coop with some boxes I had laying around from all my Amazon deliveries this week. I painted up the coop, sponged on some Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stenciled on some numbers and symbols.

The answer inside the card is a poultrygeist.  LOL.  This is going to one of my friends who has chickens and is all cooped up working from home.  We thought it would be more fun than it is so we are doing everything we can to add fun.  We have 35 on our team so we are sending pictures of our lunch, chatting when we can, recognizing great things we see, etc.  I think I may do some virtual bingo and send some prizes from Door Dash or Amazon or something.

Since I have green on both my BAJ pages, I am going to link this to the fabulous **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* challenge.
Here is a closer picture of the card. I know she is going to love this!!!
Here is a closer picture of my BAJ page. I never realized there was a Psalm about old age.  Some really good words/lessons/thoughts in this one.  I looked up some more Psalm information and found out that David didn't write all the Psalms (I thought he did).  Moses wrote some of them (Psalms 90-100) and there were 5 other authors.  There are also 5 books in Psalms.  Very interesting.  I am almost half through with Psalms and then I think I will go to Matthew.
Yesterday, I participated in the Mixed Media challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com.  The theme is Spring and at least 2 medias.  I used Dina Wakley paint on an embossing folder and stamped it on the page to make the sky.  I added in some yellow ink.  I also used gesso and some paint for the grounding.  Added in a few flowers since Spring should have flowers.

The deer and the cut up words are from a damaged children's book I found at a flea market a few weeks ago.  They were giving away some books that had been wet.  I took a music book, a book on famous people, and this lovely old book.  So fun.  It worked perfect for Psalm 66 which talks about longing for God as a deer longs for flowing streams (and a bunch of other wonderful words).

Speaking of Spring flowers, my 4-year old Grandson, Patton, brought me these lovely purple flowers (they are from weeds but don't let him know).  I think they are Henbit, but I am probably wrong as I know nothing about outside things.  I do know about little boy's hearts so they are on my kitchen counter displayed proudly.
Hope you are staying safe and sane.  Cabin fever is real so we need to all stay connected to family, friends, and God.  I am thankful for all of you who visit this blog, for all of you who inspire and encourage me, and for art.  It really helps me.

Hugz,

Nancy

  5. Fabulous journal pages Nancy, you are very creative. Such a fun card - I'm sure it will cheer up your friend.
A pretty flower/weed, it is very difficult for all of the little ones to cope with all of this social distancing, especially when they don't really understand why.
    Take care.

  6. Beautiful creations both in your journal and fun card! Loving those "flowers" too, and it reminded me of the time my DGD gave me a beautiful bouquet of dandelions she picked just for me :) Wishing you good health as we move through this crisis.

  11. I love your decorative psalm book - I particularly like the page with the chicken panels - it made me smile, and the card is a delight. I'm sure it will go down a treat. We're lucky to have the outlets we have - the creativity and the online connections - in these difficult times.

  12. I loved how you said you knew about a little boy's heart - what lovely words. And what lovely flowers they are, I think the ones that grow wild outside are Gods flowers and the great outdoors is his garden. We also are his flowers and he tends us with love and care. What a wonderful garden he has when you think about it.
Love your bible journaling, something I have never tried but always admired. And the card, that is such fun, I am sure it will be loved for days to come.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  15. I'm not sure you will even see this comment. It's so late because I have been offline off and on for over six days. Just when I think my internet is stable again, I get kicked off.

Wonderful pages. The chickens are a riot. I loved the one about no google or wikipedia. Too funny. Of course, they were all well done and very clever. I love how you masked the page with the various greens. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey.

I agree we are all in this same boat, but it's great that we HAVE this beautiful virtual community our grandparents (and possibly parents) didn't have. We will make it through this and your grandson will soon be able to bring you more of nature's flowers.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
