Distressed Holiday Tag - Tim Holtz Style!

The techniques Tim Holtz used on his May tags are so awesome: tissue tape resist, adding texture paste, sponging, stenciling, attaching findings, metallic sprays, and making flowers.  I so wanted to try them all together on a tag.  Also - I so want one of those new mixed media pallets he has come out with!

I started with a white sheet of paper, and I cut it with a Sizzix Tim Holtz Cabinet Die.  Then I stamped the DRS Designs Merry Christmas Especially to You Greeting on the top and the Giant Poinsettia image on the bottom left corner.  I stamped another Giant Poinsettia on another sheet and formed up some leaves. Next, I used a chicken wire stencil and added some modeling paste.  Once the modeling paste dried, I sponged on some Tim Holtz Distress Inks. 

Then, I cut some stars (I cut one in half) and added them on.  The May cool technique is to take some tissue tape and cover some spots on your project before spraying. I used some washi tape and covered the sentiment and some parts of the stars and sprayed on some Fireworks spray.  When the tape was peeled off, the sentiment was highlighted beautifully and the stars had some very cool shading going on.  To pop up the flower, I cut a few leaves and popped them up.  I added some gold leaves, some little berries, and a star button out of my findings box. 

So fun, I am going to try all this again soon!.

I glance at the tags periodically and always tell myself I am going to try them.  I am so glad I did. I am entering this tag in the challenge even though I didn't make a tattered flower - I did cut out a flower and I did distress it, form it up, and add some berries.  While reading through the other posts on Tim's blog, I realized Tim is super addicted to Junk too.  The post prior to the May tag challenge shows his haul from a junk show (loved the train, the flower frog, and that desk!).  Since I have a junk booth and I am addicted to Junk too, I am even crazier about Tim than before.  Yesterday at lunch, I went treasure hunting and found an old fake cherry pie - it looked so real (if you excused the little bits of dust in the corners of the crust - lol).  I set it on my desk at work, and you would not believe how many people dropped by to talk to me about it.  So fun!  I am going to put it inside the primitive pie safe I have in the booth now.  Once the safe sells, I will use the pie in my July 4th decorating.
