Fun With Sailboats and Puppies

DRS Designs has some new fun stamps so I played with them this week (they are available in the store in a few days).

My first card is made with the new sailboat, island scene, and ruler stamps.  I also used the Big Mouth Bass, You are my Sunshine, and Wood grain background images.  I was going for a Tim Holtz look on this one so I sponged and sprayed and stenciled the card and fish. I entered this one in the SCS Inspiration Challenge (the Tim Holtz inspiration from two weeks ago) and this week's color challenge.  I love all these images (new and old)!  After did the card, I realized I had stamped the woodgrain so lightly that it looked like rain so I will be doing this again with a rain sentiment.  Fun!!!

Today starts the new weekly challenge at DRS Designs and the theme is Creative Piercing.  I used the new Congrats on your Pet sentiment (not sure what it will be called in the store) and the fun Doggie Dilemma Dog with Fence image with is already available. The fence didn't go all the way to the edges of my paper so I finished them out with a Micron Pen.  Then I drew some weeds and creatively pierced around them so I could draw in some zig zags.  I sponged in a little path and pierced the edges of it too.  Then I did some piercings in two of the corners.  I was trying to sponge this whole thing but couldn't do the fence or dog so I water colored them and put in some white highlights with a gel pen. I am still in my aversion to coloring mood - hope it passes soon!

Hope you will join in the DRS Designs Creative Piercing Challenge - we would love to see your ideas.

Hugz!

  1. You have done some great channeling here, Nancy!! such a rustic look with the paper, adding the stenciling and sponging your colors in from the edge to give it a very masculine look! Looks like that fish (whale) is about to swallow up the boat - are the rulers to measure how big your fish is??? LOL

Now this new puppy is something else!! Make me chuckle out loud, seeing him ready to trot thru the fence opening with his retrieved big fetch it stick!! The piercing really brings out the path, and the zig zags on the "weeds" look so cool! Great job, sending hugz!

  2. Two fabulous cards Nancy, I will have to try your trick with the woodgrain stamp, it does make perfect rain doesn't it.
Your second card is brilliant, I love the way you have created the fence and your fun image is perfect.

  3. It's great to see you posting again, and I love the first card with it's artsy look and the fish appearing to be drinking the rainwater! LOL The 2nd card is just too much fun with that sweet pooch thinking much larger than he can handle! :)

  4. Gorgeous sailboat card! Love the bg you created. The image with the dog just had me grinning from ear to ear - I remember a girlfriend and myself doing a skit where we wore full football outfits - shoulder pads and all - and before we went out she decided to go pee and when entering the stall forgot about the shoulder pads hit the sides and before she knew it was sitting on the floor wondering what happened. Heck, I almost peed my pants after watching the whole thing and her second attempt at entering the stall was much more successful LOL

The Sea, Words of Courage, and Some Ink/Watercolor

Hello friends, Last week felt like a stormy sea of its own with my husband recovering from recent hip replacement surgery and several friends and family members facing life battles - my heart was caught in the waves. Computer issues and lack of sleep didn't help. Mark 4:39-41 reminded me: even when the winds rage, Jesus is in the boat. He speaks peace over the chaos. “Peace, be still.” I needed that reminder. Several lovely Creative Worship Stamps sets were used in the making of this watercolored and inked BAJ page: The Sea (the boat and verse), Scene Silhouettes: Tall Grasses, and Have Courage . This page was stamped, then watercolored with Daniel Smith Watercolors. I finished it off with some Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Vintage Photo, Mustard Seed, and Ground Expresso), plus a little bit of Silver Stickles. We have a lot of things going on in life and you time is precious, thank you for spending a little bit with me.  Hugz, Nancy

Flowers, a Flag, and Some Wise Words

Hello Crafty Friends! I love Halle's theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* this month: Botanicals. So many possibilities... I combined the botanical theme with some of the colors in ARTNUDGE#725A and came up with this Bible Art Journal page focusing on 1 Timothy 2:1-2. I also made a patriotic prayer card too. In these verses, Paul tells Timothy (and all of us) to pray for everyone but he especially calls out prayer for kings and leaders. He indicates that this type of prayer could lead us to a tranquil and quite life in all godliness and dignity. I think we can all agree that the world needs much prayer right now and it is an easy step we can take.   I experimented on this journal page. I usually cover any bible journal pages with gesso before painting on them, but I have issues with the gesso gumming up my Micron pens or unevenly taking color. This time I used Daniel Smith Ground Medium in Titanium White (I mixed it with 10 parts water). I loved it and will be using it in the fut...

Wise Words for Life's Storms

My first post as a Guest Designer for Creative Worship Stamps. This watercolor and ink card features one of my favorite CWS sentiments - Big God . I am so grateful He is there in storms and this stamp beautifully underscores His power. The main panel of this card is watercolor paper and was painted with Daniel Smith Watercolors and Liquid Ink (the white highlights in the rain drops). The words were stamped with black ink from Close to My Heart. Hugz, Nancy
