Jungle Selfie and Naked Stamping

Do you ever get in crafting moods?  I have never been a great colorist - markers and me have a serious love/hate relationship (I love them and they hate me).  They are so expensive, they dry up on me (do you really have to put those tops on good? and refilling is never fun), I can never find them (my fault), and I am too lazy and cheep to take a class and learn how to use the correctly.  So I am on marker strike!  I colored this selfie card with distress inks and water colors.  I was inspired to do the card from two of my favorite crafters - Julie and Sheila over at DRS Designs (I put links to their cards if you click on their names).

I used the Jimbo and Gang and Leafy Tree Branch images and the Jungle Out There sentiment - all from DRS Designs.  I love this selfie concept and will be doing more of them.

The new DRS Designs Challenge started today and it is Naked Stamping!  Sounds exciting doesn't it?  The concept is to stamp your image but don't color it.  Since I am not using markers, this thrilled me!  I just stamped my images and sponged around the edges.  I miscalculated on a cut and improvised by cutting up my base panel rather than trashing it all and starting over.  I like the sketch and will use it again!

I stamped the Script Font background image first, then stamped the Sailboat.  Cut it all up and sponged the pieces.  It needed something so I used Summer Story Greeting and cut it out with an oval punch.  Sponged it and popped it up .  Fun!!!  Hope you will play in the challenge too.

Hugz,

Nancy

  1. What a cool way to improvise after a "mis-cut" - Love this layout myself and plan to try it on a card as soon as I get home (out at Lake Erie now and going to VA next weekend) - your card reminds me of a story being written while on a long distance sailing!! Big Hugs!

  2. Two fabulous cards Nancy, such a fun image and great design on the first one. The second one is lovely, your base panel looks brilliant in sections - a happy accident and the inked edges just bring everything together beautifully.

  3. Your mistake turned out to be quite the pretty card with those split panels, and I love the jungle selfie too :) Fun!

  4. I love your selfie card Nancy. You are really good at water coloring! I like how you have the branches out of the frame. Your naked card is really striking, a great guy card!

Flowers, a Flag, and Some Wise Words

Hello Crafty Friends! I love Halle's theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* this month: Botanicals. So many possibilities... I combined the botanical theme with some of the colors in ARTNUDGE#725A and came up with this Bible Art Journal page focusing on 1 Timothy 2:1-2. I also made a patriotic prayer card too. In these verses, Paul tells Timothy (and all of us) to pray for everyone but he especially calls out prayer for kings and leaders. He indicates that this type of prayer could lead us to a tranquil and quite life in all godliness and dignity. I think we can all agree that the world needs much prayer right now and it is an easy step we can take.   I experimented on this journal page. I usually cover any bible journal pages with gesso before painting on them, but I have issues with the gesso gumming up my Micron pens or unevenly taking color. This time I used Daniel Smith Ground Medium in Titanium White (I mixed it with 10 parts water). I loved it and will be using it in the fut...

Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

Stamps, Books, Found Relatives, and More Food

Don't you love getting new stuff?  This is my fun new stuff from  Red Lead Paperworks .   I ordered the fun vintage looking deer stamp and the three Christmas greetings - all were on sale a few weeks ago.  I love getting their packages because they always send some extra little goodies like collage sheets and old tickets plus even their packaging is cute and reusable.  The sheet with the leaves and acorns on the bottom is the other side of the invoice so you can reuse it as well.  I can't wait to play with these fun goodies.  Here is a look at my current reading pile.  I checked Basil's War by Stephen Hunter from the library, my daughter lent me The Paper Palace, and I bought The Host, Going Back to Petrey, and The Lady in Blue from the Thrift Store. I am reading Basil's War and The Lady in Blue at the same time - something I really shouldn't do especially since both books are the kind that switch between stories every chapter.  Th...
