Some Recent Cards and DTGD

Hello friends.

The last few weeks have been busy around here as we are trying to put our house back together after installing new flooring, hubby had three tables in a Militaria show (boys showing off guns, military memorabilia, knives, etc to each other selling, buying and trading), family visiting, a major project at work, back to school for the Grandkids, and Dare to Get Dirty at Splitcoaststampers.com (DTGD).  I look so forward to this week of mega challenges, but I had a bit too much going on to participate in all the challenges.  Here are a few of the cards I did.  

This lighthouse card was my favorite. It was done with the salt technique.  Apply wet ink to your paper and cover in salt.  Once dry, brush off the salt.  I think you are supposed to use sea salt, but all I had was table salt so I got a very fine pebbling.  I loved it.  I had a bunch of left over salt so I mixed it with some white acrylic paint and made the waves.  The panel on the right is the inside of the card.  I really like this new set from SU!
I was still in a beach mood so I dug out my silhouette Palm Trees image from DRS Designs and tried another DTGD challenge.  This one was supposed to be photo paper, distress oxides and a baby wipe.  I only had a little photo paper - see the small panel and also only one color of distress oxides.  I really didn't like it so I just used all the colors and made the card to the left instead.  Ink, spray, smash technique and some of the left over salted acrylic paint - lol.
 This next card was for a paper flower card.  I had to use Good Morning Magnolia from SU! as that is my favorite flower set.  Added in some Stickles to the middle.
This last challenge card was for a Christmas Challenge using old stamps.  I used some painted and distressed cardboard for the base panel and then the old Lovely as a Tree stamp from SU! and an old sentiment stamp as well - I heat embossed them with white embossing power.  Added some lace and bakers twine to add a bit more of an old fashioned Christmas feel.

    Fabulous cards Nancy, they are all beautiful but I especially like the first two - there is something about the beach!

    They're all wonderful creations, but I too favor the lighthouse! It looks so pretty with all the shells and birds!

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. My tag is made from an old cardboard box top which I peeled down, painted, distressed a bit, and then added some snow medium. My bow is actually a new bow designed by Pamela Lehto (available at Squigglefly tomorrow). Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

 I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

 On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him.
