BAJ Hearts

The *ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* challenge this month is hearts.  I was super inspired by the theme because I do most my art journaling in my bible and it is all about the heart!  My three pages are in Psalms - my goal is to finish reading and BAJ Psalms before I move to other parts of the Bible. 

I love the large hymnal page heart on this one, and I did it in my some of my favorite colors.  The page was gessoed, then ink/spray/smash-ed one color at a time using some acetate.  I stenciled on some circles, and then pounced on some white acrylic paint to soften it all up.  The heart is cut out of an old hymnal then distressed.  The words on the heart were done using a Jelly Glaze pen so they would show up.  I gessoed the heart and words.  Everything else is doodles. 
My next page is a hot mess.  I started with stamping flowers with some tea stain distress ink, then I scribbled on some Dina Wakely Scribble Sticks.  I am new to this medium, and I didn't really like how the red was coming out.  I stopped and started yellow.  Then I realized they don't blend well or I don't know how to blend them so the red ended up like this.  I went with super busy after that hoping to camouflage the red portion (which looks pink).  I ended up with lots of stuff on the page, and you can still prominently see the red/pink patch.  It is bright and cheerful and I did learn a lot (in the Psalms and with my medium). 
Warning for those of you who dislike pink or large amounts of it - this next page is pink, pink, pink!  I sponged on some pink distress oxide, then stenciled on some yellow hearts and sun rays.  I wanted it to have the sky and earth so I stamped some SU! trees on the bottom.  Added a hymnal page heart and a ticket (aren't we all looking for a ticket to heaven?), and a bunch of hearts (drawn, painted and 3-D stickers).  I am not fond of this one (probably my big handwriting and I am not a giant pink fan but I pretend in February), but I did get some good bible reading, thinking, and praying.

    By the way, the scribble sticks should blend with water, but it does depend on the surface you use. xx

    Your hearts make that Bible journal special, Nancy. This is a fabulous way to read the Bible and make art at the same time. I was certainly impressed and I loved all three pages, even though I don't often consider myself a pink person. Thanks beyond belief for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey.     Oh I do like these very much and each page is different.
    The first is pretty with subtle colours and with lovely words.
    The second is very jolly with the flowers and hearts and the great background.
    The pink third is super too and your very neat black hand-writing looks really good on the pink. I think more of us like pink these days than ever before.

The Sea, Words of Courage, and Some Ink/Watercolor

Hello friends, Last week felt like a stormy sea of its own with my husband recovering from recent hip replacement surgery and several friends and family members facing life battles - my heart was caught in the waves. Computer issues and lack of sleep didn't help. Mark 4:39-41 reminded me: even when the winds rage, Jesus is in the boat. He speaks peace over the chaos. “Peace, be still.” I needed that reminder. Several lovely Creative Worship Stamps sets were used in the making of this watercolored and inked BAJ page: The Sea (the boat and verse), Scene Silhouettes: Tall Grasses, and Have Courage . This page was stamped, then watercolored with Daniel Smith Watercolors. I finished it off with some Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Vintage Photo, Mustard Seed, and Ground Expresso), plus a little bit of Silver Stickles. Flowers, a Flag, and Some Wise Words

Hello Crafty Friends! I love Halle's theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* this month: Botanicals. So many possibilities... I combined the botanical theme with some of the colors in ARTNUDGE#725A and came up with this Bible Art Journal page focusing on 1 Timothy 2:1-2. I also made a patriotic prayer card too. In these verses, Paul tells Timothy (and all of us) to pray for everyone but he especially calls out prayer for kings and leaders. He indicates that this type of prayer could lead us to a tranquil and quite life in all godliness and dignity. I think we can all agree that the world needs much prayer right now and it is an easy step we can take.   I experimented on this journal page. I usually cover any bible journal pages with gesso before painting on them, but I have issues with the gesso gumming up my Micron pens or unevenly taking color. This time I used Daniel Smith Ground Medium in Titanium White (I mixed it with 10 parts water). I loved it and will be using it in the fut...

Wise Words for Life's Storms

 My first post as a Guest Designer for Creative Worship Stamps. This watercolor and ink card features one of my favorite CWS sentiments - Big God . I am so grateful He is there in storms and this stamp beautifully underscores His power. The main panel of this card is watercolor paper and was painted with Daniel Smith Watercolors and Liquid Ink (the white highlights in the rain drops).
