Projects, Grandkids, and Mixed Media Stretches

Hello crafty friends!

I haven't posted in 2 weeks - a bit of missing MOJO and I wasn't feeling well.  I am feeling better now!

I purchased a Dina Wakley Art Journal last week.  Love the textured papers - so different than my BAJ pages.  I went a little crazy and painted my first pages super bright!  The **Art*Journal*Journey* theme this month was selected by Erika and she picked:  When it's hot.

I was inspired by that theme, these adorable pictures of my Grandson's eating watermelon, last week's MIX challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com (used found objects in your mixed media project), and THIS fun watermelon rug from the Inspiration Site Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com.
The background started with music paper and a few layers of clear and white gesso.  I painted it all pink. to match my inspiration picture, but when I compared the pictures to it, it didn't work.  So I darkened it up a bit of red paint (Arteza Gouache Color).  To frame up my Grandsons, I used pieces of corrugated card board (from an Amazon box) that I painted with green stripes to resemble watermelon rind.

Stenciled on some seeds (raindrop stencil) with chalk paint, stamped some wonky circles with a loo roll tube dipped in white paint, and added in some die cut music lines and letters (music lines were from a friend and letters are Recollections).  I painted some stash paper with gold paint to get my letters.  Very fun project.  One of my Grandsons loved it and wanted to do a page - I will share it in a few days.

Also for when it is hot theme, I scrap-booked my visit to White City Cemetery.
Hubby and I love to visit historical markers and especially love the ones at cemeteries and supposedly haunted places.  This one is not far from our house so we could visit it during the C-19 restrictions. The base is some alpha kraft paper and I typed up the main panel leaving room for my pictures.  I stamped some DRS Designs Halloween images (Iron Fence and Gate, Silhouette Grave Yard, The Raven, and Empty Spider Web).  I sponged the edge with TH DI, drew in some lines to attach the spider web to the page/pictures, and added in a little dew drop to the spider web.

Next, I did a fun project with a few friends.  We are all pretty new to Mixed Media and love watching videos.  We call ourselves the Mix Media Video Addicts.  This is our second month and these are the two videos we watched:

Here are my creations:
This BAJ page was done in Psalms 119 and centered on verse 105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.  I had intended to do a lamp theme, but once I got in the craft room, it changed into a travel theme. Our projects were supposed to have a neutral theme, layers, and some Paper Dolls or something like them.  I added in a tea bag and some vintage music paper.  The map collage image is PSX.  This creation didn't thrill me so I did another.
This started out as a piece of an Amazon Box, then scrunched tissue paper with layers of gesso, an old hymnal page, and then bits and pieces from the Stamperia Alice paper collection (love that collection).  Plenty of gold paint, TH Distress Ink in Vintage Photo, Stenciling with modeling paste, and a tea tag from the tea I was drinking while making it.  I liked this one much better.

Here are a few cards I have made lately.

This one was made by placing reinkers on a baby wipe to create an ink pad to stamp with.  I love the mixed colors (I used blue, green, and terracotta and this is the color I got.  Very cool.  Images are Lavenia and Inspiraton Obsession (IO).  This was for a technique challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com.

This was made for a water color challenge - using tissue paper dipped in ink to create something. I got a bit too aggressive with the embossing powder but it has a cool look.
This was for a challenge to send an encouraging card to someone with facing a big health challenge. I didn't send it because I forgot the part where it was supposed to be upbeat and cheerful.  I have to do another card to replace it, but I really like how this came out.  I stamped a bunch of images from SU! By the Tide set including the word stamp, then I die cut some underwater items to set off the sentiment panel. The sentiment panel stamp is from Divinity Designs.
This next card is made from some left over pieces from my Alice project above, some stash papers and die cuts.  I think it would work as a late birthday card.
My last card is from a watercolor challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com.  The challenge was blending which I need to learn much better. The image is Good Morning Magnolia from SU!
Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end and for visiting my blog.  I so appreciate it!

Hugz,

Nancy

  1. Oh my Nancy, you have made so many gorgeous creations I don't know where to start, they are all *****fan*tas*tic***** As an Alice fan I love those pieces especially. The Bible journaling is great too, love the vintage colours, and the cards and the way you worked with the tissue paper, simply beautiful. And the scrap pages from the old cemetery, I love places like that. Definitely a five star post! Have a lovely day, take care of yourself, hugs, Valerie

  2. So many wonderful pieces of art today Nancy. I want to say thanks for joining in at AJJ. The red is hot for sure. And I love the photos of your grandkids eating watermelon. What is any better on a hot day than that, especially with it dripping all over your hands and chin? And the White City Cemetery would be great for Halloween also. Glad to hear you are feeling better and glad you are able to join us at AJJ also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs-Erika

  6. Heavens, Nancy, where to begin. I guess with the watermelon smiles. I'm glad you went with bright red because the photos pop on the pages, now. This is a fabulous entry for Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey.

I love what you did with the White City Cemetery, too. Sometimes we buy specialty stamps and get hung up on their original use. I love how you thought outside the box and didn't limit your choices, but used Halloween images in a totally appropriate and beautiful way.

I really LOVE your cards. I'm not a card maker, so I am in awe of the ones you created. Those colors on the Breathe Darling were a surprise when combined. I have used that technique, too because I have tons of reinkers and only black ink.

I also love the Alice entry because of the tea cups and Alice of course. I guess it stands to reason I also LOVED the rabbit, too. It's a beauty and I love the idea of it being a belated card. You make incredible art and your cards are OUT OF THIS WORLD, dear.

  9. First of all I love the photographs of the watermelon eaters. The first little grandson is eating it the best way - semi naked. They are so juicy being bare at the top is sensible!
After that I was blown away with the lovely pictures you posted, my favourite being the Alice themed ones although in truth I did like them all. Loved the final one where you had painted that flower. Gorgeous!
    Hugs, Neet xx

  10. Another post full of treats, but I think it's the Alice themed ones that are my favourites here. (I know it's not about favourites, but they're the ones which speak to me.) The white rabbit's coat is so dapper, and I love the coordinating butterfly.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
