BAJ, Some Strong Messages, and Few Cards

We are moving fast to the BIG holidays in the U.S. - Turkey Day and Christmas.  This year the holidays will be very different!  I am interested to see what happens.  I am doing a lot of Zoom and MS Teams meetings in my craft room/at home office so I think I am going to get a tall skinny tree to go behind me so things will look more festive.  Thanksgiving is going to be very interesting as I am doing Whole30...the turkey will be a go, but I am going to have to bring two stuffing dishes:  Sweet Potato Sausage Stuffing and my Mom's old recipe for everyone else. I can see the looks on my family's faces when they come up on the sweet potato stuffing!  There are three semi-ealthy eaters that may venture out and try it, but the rest will turn up their noses and say "there she goes making some weird stuff again."  I always slip a bunch of cooked yellow squash in my normal stuffing and they never know it. Tee Hee!  I am still losing weight a little at a time - down 18.5 pounds since the end of September so I am sticking with it.

Today I have some BAJ pages to share.

Following along with Wendy's  **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* prompt, I did another page with birds.

This is Psalms 106 which I have avoided for some reason, but it finally spoke to me this week.  The background was my attempt to do faux marbling since it is hard to dip a large bible page into a marbling mixture.  I did it by mixing some inky water on aluminum foil and plopping it on my page.  The page was coated with Gesso first and then another layer.  I did one final layer of gesso after my watercolor birds and words were written and it blurred some of my letters.  I  still like it.  I put some stickles rays coming from the word Power - you can barely see them in the picture.  I added a sticky note for the verse that talks about God taking note of our pleas.

My next page is John 4, the story of the Samaritan Woman at the well.  Such a lovely story where Jesus shows us we can all be forgiven and all be used to spread His message.  I love the analogy of Him being living water and I had a water bottle on my table so I just sketched it out and added a little Shadow of him in he bottle.  I showed it to a friend who was studying this passage with me and she said she loved the lady in the bottle - my sketching needs some work!!!  LOL

I did this next page a while back for the Stitch in Time Art Journal Journey prompt, but I hesitated posting it because I don't want to offend anyone who wouldn't like me putting Hitler in this sinking pit.   I accept that everyone has different political views and that we won't all agree on things, but this is how I see this particular person from history.  I also try to stay away from judging the heart of others.  He may have had a heart change at the very end and he may be going to a good place - we won't know until the end.  The fact is that millions died under his direction so the odds are not in his favor....

Did a card this morning really quick adding in a scene I watercolored a month or so ago.  This is going off to a man who is battling cancer but things are looking a bit better for him.  The challenge was to show a scene out a window as this man loves the outdoors.  The papers are Stamperia.  It has a lot of gold paint on it too, but none of it showed up in my picture for some reason.  Too early in the morning most likely.

And I did a Christmas card this weekend using my last of the inky paper towel background my 5 year old Grandson, Lewis, made me.  I am sad it is all gone.  I so need to get him to make me some more.  I watercolored the tree and then flecked SnowTex all over the card.  The tree and greeting are new from DRS Designs.

I know this  post has a few strong messages in it.  I am aware that others have different views on religion, history, politics, holidays, etc. I am cool with that, and I am not expecting everyone to agree with me.  I am just trying to sharing my art journal and card journey with others who are interested and my personal views show up in my art as they do with others.

  1. First of all I have to save a huge congrats on the weight loss. That is exciting. I need to lose around 30 pounds and it is really really hard, so kudos to you. And I am loving all the art today. The Hitler image caught my eye and I had to read the page. Not that I thought you were a Neo-Nazi at all. Smile. All your art is wonderful and I am so glad you shared it with us at Art Journal Journey. Stay well. Hugs-Erika

I don't celebrate anything as I am always alone, but I am sure the family will enjoy your cooking. Take care, hugs, Valerie

  4. A fabulous page for my bird theme, thank you. I would like your stuffing, I too do weird things with my cooking, and everyone is still alive and with no grumbles.

  5. You deserve a huge pat on the back for your weight loss. I love the journal page you created for Wendy's theme at Art Journal Journey, and I can't believe ANYONE would disagree about Hitler being the bad guy.

Your cards are lovely. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving and no one turns their noses up to what sounds like some wonderful stuffing.

    1. Fabulous pages Nancy, super marbling on the first one. Great cards, I especially like the first one, a wonderful Autumn scene through the window.
Congratulations on the weight loss, I've lost 17 pounds in the last couple of months, it doesn't get any easier does it! Slow but sure is the best way though - at least that's what I'm told. It sounds like you are going to busy at Thanksgiving, make sure you still manage to enjoy yourself.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
