T is for Tea, Whiskey and Art

Time. A precious resource.  Over the past two weekends, I was able to get some quality time with my youngest daughter, Allie.  These pictures are from two weekends ago.

We started with lunch at a fabulous tea room in Opelika, Alabama, called The Well.  They have yummy salads, scones, their famous beet brownies, and teas.  I selected a carmelized pear tea (the top left of the pictures) and Allie had some kind of coconut tea (bottom of the pictures).  They were out of their beet brownies, so we split a scone.  I had never visited before, but I discovered that some Art Journalers meet there monthly so when work slows down, I will be definitely visiting more.

After lunch, we stopped over at the John Emerald Distillery to try some of their whiskies.
These whiskies had a bit too much bite for me.  I had never tried Rye before - I discovered I am not a fan so the fact that it spilled on the flight board did not bother me.

Both places were worth the 1.5 hour drive.  We stopped off at a Thrift Store and had pizza at Pies and Pints in Montgomery before heading home.

The tea and whiskies are my ticket to the T-gang meeting over at Elizabeth's blog, Altered Book Lover.  This week Elizabeth is sharing her fun drink related altered playing card journal, and I can't wait to see what drink related post all the others have come up with. Everyone is welcome as long as they link up a post with something drink related (any type of drink).

I also have some art made in the last few weeks.  First, I have a Painted Journal page with an old Victorian card.

A scrapbook page made for my Aunt Joan (she is heading up our crafting retreat this weekend - the grop is called the Snappy Scrappers).

A few cards:

Hugz and Happy T-day!

  1. What a great time you must have had with your daughter. Tea and scones sound wonderful, and although I don't care for whiskey, the experience sounds wonderful. Thanks for taking us to these wonderful places and sharing your experiences with us for T this Tuesday.

I love your cards. It goes to show that pigs actually do fly (grin). It's a cute card and perfect for Valentine's Day, too. I would much rather have a paper hug than a paper cut, too. I like that die that uses those trees.

I absolutely love the charming journal page. It is really charming and has a romantic feel to me. I somehow don't ever think of your style as messy, but I sure like the vintage look and feel you have given this latest entry. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey using Bleubeard’s and my theme.

  2. Your outing sounds like a lot of fun. It must be nice weather, too — we wouldn’t drive that far in our snow and ice. The roads here have been quite risky. I hope you enjoy the journalers’ get-togethers.

  3. Good morning, sounds like a wonderful day out with your daughter. I don't know too many people that like the taste of rye-but we do have two friends that rye is their favorite. I love the clear little tea pots that your tea was served in. Your art is beautiful, I especially love the first one Happy T hugs Kathy

  4. You look like you had a wonderful day out with your daughter Nancy. It looks like you had fun. I'm glad omicron is dropping as I've had to be so carefully as my husband is immune compromised. I can't wait to get out and about again. How fun to visit a tea room for T. And your art is gorgeous today. I love your journal page. It came out gorgeous and feels almost retro. It is perfect for Elizabeth's style challenge at AJJ. Thanks for sharing with us. And nice scrap page and cards too. I hope you have a great T day and week ahead. Hugs-Erika

Don´t know if I tried Whiskey ever? Rum and beer and wine, though, haha, happy times.
Cute cards, too, to a happy T-Day!
P.S. New company called me twice today, interview come Thursday (problem: I want to work in Braunschweig due to a car accident no more driving, please, so I say no to other cities).
    Hugz!

  10. Beet brownie sounds interesting and I'm not really sure what it would taste like. Too bad they were out of them since you could have told us. Their tastes in tea also are quite unusual. How lovely that you could have spent such a great time with your daughter.
Your cards, journal page and scrapbook page look gorgeous. I like the name "Snappy Scappers". Happy T day!

  14. Glad you got to spend a wonderful day with your daughter. Your tea room sounds wonderful! Brings back some very happy memories for me. We had a fabulous tea room in our area. It was open for 32 years...and I managed to get there at least once a year. Sadly it closed. These was also one that was about one and half hours from my home. I only got to visit there one time. Two dear friends took me there for my birthday...but with the pandemic it is now closed.
I like all your art work.. as always.

I just wanted to ask you a quick question. I didn't see your email address so I will send you PM at Split coast. Hope you are having a great week.

  18. Oh that tearoom sounds (and looks) great. If it were a bit nearer (I', in Spain) I would definitely visit. The beet scones sound interesting. Shame they didn't have any.
Your artwork is beautiful, especially the cards. I had to smile at the pig with wings though. In England there is an expression ´Pigs might fly´ they say it when something you desire is quite impossible and is not going to happen, but.... pigs might fly! Now I see the pig disguised as Cupid, and it made me smile.
    Happy belated T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

Now, the whiskies were a lovely way to finish the day off.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
