A Little London, More Butter Beer, and Some Art

This past weekend we played tourists in Birmingham, Alabama again.  We live an hour away and it is one of our favorite cities.  On the way, we googled places to eat and found a real gem: The Little London.  If you click on the restaurant name here, there is a write up.  They serve authentic English food which is a treat the deep Southern U.S., plus they are whimsical, and we love whimsical.  Of course, we ate on the double decker bus AND we drank butter beer (what Harry Potter fan can resist that?).

Allie and Patton relaxing before our Sunday Brunch arrived.
The butter beer before Allie started drinking it.
Don't you love the floating candles?
We ordered the same thing which is usually a no no in our family (we share new treats), but it was hard to resist the Traditional English Breakfast. Wonder if my English friends can rate this for authenticity?

The butter beer is my ticket to the T-day gang gathering over at Elizabeth's blog.  You are welcome too if you have a drink related post. Today, Elizabeth is sharing her finished altered playing card journal and it is fabulous. Can't wait to see what everyone else has in store for us.

I also have some art to share.  First a sympathy card going to co-worker who lost her father recently. I cased THIS card by Nancy Endwright - this week's Featured Stamper at Splitcoaststampers.com.

I also wanted to show support for the Ukraine with a sunflower.  I drew the flower in ink, colored it up with markers, and then went back in and wrote in the words to Zelenky's February Call to Peace Speech - it is a beautiful speech.  I wrote the words tiny, but I have a close up here too.

Sunflowers are more a late Summer early Fall flower, but I am claiming them for Spring as they are a flower and we wish for quick peace in the Ukraine.  Linking to Valerie's Spring theme at **Art*Journal*Journey

Happy T-day and thanks for visiting - you are all dear to me.

  1. The English breakfast is a fascinating tradition. I’ve actually read several books about it! That really looks like a fun restaurant where you ate it.

  3. That restaurant looks like so much fun Nancy. I've had traditional English breakfasts before and though I'm no expert, this looks like I remember. I like how they serve butter beer too. (I do need to try that one of these days.) And not only is your card beautiful, but your sunflower page is amazing. What a fantastic drawing. You do have lots of talent. Have a great T and week ahead. And thanks for sharing this page with us for Valerie's challenge at AJJ. Hugs-Erika

  4. That looks like a fun place to eat, loving the candles and that butter beer looks so insteresting, I'd love to try it! The English breakfast looks pretty good and so yummy, the only thing is that the bacon here wouldn't be so crispy and we normally have back bacon rather than streaky bacon, the eggs wouldn't be cooked over easy (this isn't really a thing in the UK although I prefer mine that way) they would be served just as they get cooked and we would also have baked beans too ...lol 😉. Now I'm thinking I may have to have a full English breakfast myself, I'm so hungry after seeing yours ...smile! Loving your beautiful artwork too and wishing you a very Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x

  5. My sincere apologies for this universal message, but my electricity has been off from about 4:25 Monday afternoon until shortly after 7:40 this morning. A transformer blew in my neighborhood. I heard the boom and felt the aftershock. It was a bitterly cold, windy night, so once my hands get warm and I get hot coffee and food in me, and I’ve had a chance to sleep (sleep was impossible in the cold), I’ll be by to visit properly. In the meantime, please accept my apology for not leaving a proper comment.

  10. That looks like a really nice place! Looks like it has a Harry Potter theme to it.
The full English breakfast looks good. Only the eggs would not be served like that and where are the baked beans? In the UK the bacon would be lovely back bacon which is not easy to find abroad and here in Spain, we have streaky bacon like I see on your plate. But I'm sure it tasted lovely.
I love your sunflower to show solidarity with Ukraine.
Happy T-Day (And happy Women's Day),
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  11. It does look like a real English breakfast - but where are the baked beans? Those I got so often for breakfast in England.
Your sunflower is beautiful and meaningful. I like that you wrote Zelenskyy's words of peace in it.

  14. The food looks delicious, the only thing missing for me would be the Black pudding (blood sausage). I was born in Swansea Wales, and lived in London for 5 years before moving to Canada.
Love both of your cards, especially your sunflower, awesome texture ♥

  15. It sounds like you had a great day out Nancy, your English Breakfast looks quite authentic, the eggs aren't quite right though, we would always have them 'sunny side up' and the sausage is a little large - I wonder, is that toast, if so we would have fried bread with a traditional English. Your sympathy card is lovely, a super design and your Sunflower is beautiful, a wonderful page.

  18. Sorry I'm so late visiting. I am British and I have never had an over easy egg. Always sunny side up. I think the restaurant is adorable, and those candles are amazing. I think you need baked beans for a traditional English breakfast, though. Since I'm a vegetarian, I would not want the sausage or bacon, but the bacon doesn't look like what my grandmother always cooked. On the whole, if you got what you wanted egg wise, I would say you should stick with how you prefer your eggs. I've never had butter beer, but it is a great way to celebrate T Tuesday.

I absolutely adore your incredible sunflower. It is fabulous. I love how you used Zelensky’s call for peace speech in the sunflower. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey using Valerie's theme.

  19. What a super place to visit Nancy, there is much around that I see that can resemble UK design, love the HP floating candles. The breakfast does have some traditions to an English breakfast but without the beans and good portions of back bacon. It's much smaller than our cafe's and restaurants would serve or me hee hee!!
The sunflower is amazing, including the peace speech makes it an extra special reflection. Hugs Tracey x

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. My tag is made from an old cardboard box top which I peeled down, painted, distressed a bit, and then added some snow medium. My bow is actually a new bow designed by Pamela Lehto (available at Squigglefly tomorrow). Please join us in the Pattie's Creations Tag Challenge - there are lovely DT tags for inspiration and Pattie gives away wonderful prizes! Hugz!

Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him. They have planes, tanks, and other vehicles there too so you can see exactly what ...
