A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.

This is the only picture I took of the bridge.

The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with:
They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him. They have planes, tanks, and other vehicles there too so you can see exactly what the war equipment looked like (they have some current day items as well).  Once ,I even caught hubby at one of the exhibits explaining the difference in the guns to people.....lol!  He could so be a tour guide there.

I need a ticket to T-day so I can hang out with the T-day gang over at Elizabeth's Blog so I have a beer I bought strictly for the name and that old truck on it.  Happy T-Day friends! Surprizingly, it was a great ale.
I also have some art for Wendy's July **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* challenge of doors and/or arches.  My window is a stamp from Rubbernecker, I watercolored and doodled the background, the girl is one of Tim's, and I typed up the words.  I also watercolored the image. It was all done fast as the Grandsons were also painting and my counter was getting kind of dangerous and required some special attention due to all the cups of water and different paints we had out.  Only a bit of paint made it on their clothes so we quickly threw them in the washer - lol.
Hope you are having a lovely week so far!

Nancy

  8. Wow! 7 covered bridges in a day? That sounds like a fun day, but it would take me 4 hours to get to the first stop lol It's still an easy driving distance, though, so maybe... :)

  10. What a beautiful covered bridge. (We don't have them here as far as I know). Did you see all seven? Or just the one?
The Patton museum sounds interesting. I am often pleasantly surprised by a museum that doesn't sound that interesting but then it is, once you go and see the exhibits.
Brown ale on vanilla beans. That sounds mighty nice. (and it was, you say)
Your art is lovely, especially considering it was done in a hurry. But it's so nice to do messy things with the grandkids!
The quote is something I feel at the mo. I feel a bit overwhelmed by my husbands illness and all the different medical appointments. I'm getting stressed, and nervous and he missed an important scan (my fault) so I feel I'm losing it! Not nice. I will pick myself up (I have to) and be a bit more organized in future.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  13. Your entry title sparked an interest in me and I was expecting a picture of a shotgun wedding instead of a beer can. Lol. Great pictures of your trip and beautiful journal page.

  14. Sorry, I have been MIA due to my internet being offline.

I LOVE that beer can. That truck would pull me in. Thanks for sharing your Shotgun Wedding Beer with us for T this Tuesday.

I am afraid of those old bridges, so I doubt you would get me to even walk out on one, much less drive on it. You are certainly brave. The Patton Museum sounds fabulous. Much like the Eisenhower Museum, I suspect.

Your journal page is fabulous. I am in awe of how you treated the arch. It is a great entry, beautifully colored, and has a quote that is so true. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey using Wendy's theme, dear Nancy.

  18. A super post Nancy, the covered bridge looks fabulous and what a brilliant name for a can of beer. I love your art, you have created a lovely background for your beautiful image - it must be so nice to create with your Grandsons, even if it does get a little messy!

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
