Some Books, Fun with a Napkin, and Wise Words from a Doctor

 Hello crafty friends.

I have been a bit under the weather the last week.  I haven't been sleeping well and my ears have been bothering me.  Yesterday, I was going to bite the bullet and go to the doctor, but then I realized I still had pills from the last time this happened.  I took them and woke up better this morning.  I am guessing that the lack of sleep clouded my memory and judgement because I could have been better days ago!  Urgh!  But a happy urgh!

Since I didn't feel like doing much this week, I did read some more books.  I started the first of this series on vacation, bought number 2 on my way home from vacation and then finished this one today.  I love Jane Yellowrock, but I am not sure I am up to another dive into the dark vampire underworld she moves around in.

When I bought book two at a used bookstore in Cullman, Alabama. I also bought Blood Price by Tanya Huff.  It is an older book, but I loved Vicki Nelson and the fact that she hangs out with a vampire that is very civilized and not so egotistical.  Plus, it is fun that he is the illegitimate son of Henry VIII and writes romance novels.  I finished this one yesterday, and I just ordered 9 of her books used on Ebay for a great deal.

Last week, I read Ugly Love.  It was sad until the end.  This week, I finished a similar bok by Debbie
Macomber - Silver Linings. It was like a refreshing and upbeat version of Ugly Love.  I totally recommend it.

Since I was feeling better today, I did some art.  This journal spread was inspired by THIS FUN CARDby Bonnie aka Raduse at Splitcoaststampers.com, Wendy's doors and arches theme at **Art*Journal*Journey, and by my friend Elizabeth who loves doing art with napkins.
I started out by adhering a napkin to the pages with gesso.  This napkin has lots of pretty images in it so I cut out some of them and layered them on top of the base. I added some white gesso to soften it, and then some water color and distress oxide.  I ended up losing a bit of the Arc de Triomphe on the left so I went over it with a pen.

To finish it off,  I added in some Art-by-Marlene paper elements and the sentiment which was computer generated.  I always loved Fred Rogers and his lovely view on life. Hoping God will send us some more like him.

I have three friends having surgery in the next week so I needed a few get well cards. Two of them always make fun of my quick shorthand handwriting at work and Bunco so I made some cards that would remind them of this.  The image is an old Rubber Romance (retired) that I colored up with watercolors.  The sentiment is computer generated with my lovely quick doctor-like handwriting added in.

Hope you are having (or had depending on where you live) a wonderful weekend!

Hugz,

Nancy

  1. Your books look interesting. Your journal page is so beautiful- a truly wonderful page for Wendy's AJJ theme! Thanks so much for sharing. Your cards are sure to make your friends smile and I laughed out loud. Sometimes my writing is so bad I can't read it back! Hugs, Chrisx

  3. I am not sure how I missed this , Nancy, and feel bad that I was not here sooner. I just hope you see this comment, because I already feel bad about missing it.

I am sorry to read you were sick. I hope you are all better by now and the medicine you took was able to get you back on track.

I've heard of the second book, but not the first one. They both sound interesting, but probably not something I would read.

I am a napkin lover and I really, really LOVE the one you used to create this beautiful spread. It has everything, including a great sentiment. Of course, it's also perfect for Wendy's theme at Art Journal Journey, too. Thanks for this real gem.

Flowers, a Flag, and Some Wise Words

Hello Crafty Friends! I love Halle's theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* this month: Botanicals. So many possibilities... I combined the botanical theme with some of the colors in ARTNUDGE#725A and came up with this Bible Art Journal page focusing on 1 Timothy 2:1-2. I also made a patriotic prayer card too. In these verses, Paul tells Timothy (and all of us) to pray for everyone but he especially calls out prayer for kings and leaders. He indicates that this type of prayer could lead us to a tranquil and quite life in all godliness and dignity. I think we can all agree that the world needs much prayer right now and it is an easy step we can take.   I experimented on this journal page. I usually cover any bible journal pages with gesso before painting on them, but I have issues with the gesso gumming up my Micron pens or unevenly taking color. This time I used Daniel Smith Ground Medium in Titanium White (I mixed it with 10 parts water). I loved it and will be using it in the fut...

Wise Words for Life's Storms

My first post as a Guest Designer for Creative Worship Stamps. This watercolor and ink card features one of my favorite CWS sentiments - Big God . I am so grateful He is there in storms and this stamp beautifully underscores His power. The main panel of this card is watercolor paper and was painted with Daniel Smith Watercolors and Liquid Ink (the white highlights in the rain drops). The words were stamped with black ink from Close to My Heart. Hugz, Nancy
