Coffee, Books, and Art

Hello friends. 

Sharing my current reading list along with my morning coffee in my favorite mug. 

Three books are missing as I have started them and left them in various places like my car, hubby's truck, and the bedroom.  I almost have the 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear done - it is fun and whimsical and very strange.  I started The Visitors yesterday.  It was recommended by my sweet friend, Jayne.  Not sure what it is totally about yet, but right now the main character is in Cairo in the 1920's when archeologists were hunting for the tomb of Tutankhamun. Very interesting. I finished Love and Other Words Sunday night - I stayed up late to finish it which I rarely do.  I think it is my favorite book I have read this year.  I loved the characters.  Not sure I have ever read or known people who were more soulmates than those two.  It is going to be the book I recomend to every one for a long time. 

My daughter is always amazed that I read multiple books at the same time. It seems normal to me and stems from laziness.  If I am not busy, I grab a book and I will usually grab the first one I find that I haven't read already.  Strange but true.

I have some art to share as well.  

This first one is a fall wreath done for the weekly watercolor challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com.  There was a YouTube video: Art Exploration: Painting Wreaths and Leafery in Watercolor to follow. The sentiment is from DRS Designs. 


This next one was for the MMTPT challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com involving the creation of hats.  I had my watercolors out so I watched THIS video and created a witch's hat. The sentiment is from DRS Designs. 
The Splitcoaststampers.com Inspiration challenge this week was an Art Reproduction site and I was inspired by THIS painting which is a reproduction of the Monet painting: The Boulevard Pointoise at Argenteuil Snow Effect 1875.
I did it pretty quickly using Micron pens, watercolors, and some white acrylic paint.  The sky is pink because I did this on a piece of scrap paper I had been using to clean my blending brushes. The sky is my favorite part.  Note to self: don't throw away any scrap papers!

    Your cards are wonderful! All so different and yet all fabulous. So pretty and fun too.

    I get all engrossed in a single book at a time. I read EVERY WORD, which befuddles some of my friends. Always have and that is why I am such a slow reader. Having said that, I only have to read it once. Worked great when I was in school. Review of material before a test took mere minutes.

    I looked up Bluebear and found it was actually a bear with blue fur. Reminded me of Gulliver's Travels from reading the synopsis.

    Your cards are stunning and that Monet is unbelievable. You draw and paint SO well. You are truly blessed with this gift,. dear. Thank you for sharing your books, your cards, your painting, and your coffee in that lovely Alabama mug with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy.

    BTW, The Spice Merchant is owned by Bob Bayhee and his wife, Miriam. They only advertise on the local NPR radio show and the local PBS stations. He is definitely NOT a chain (grin). I know him from PBS, although he also lives in my neighborhood. too.

    I have enough trouble remembering what's in the one and only book I'm reading at any given time! I like the look of your stack of real books -- I mostly read on Kindle.

    I needed to download that as well - sweet memories of Broome, Western Australia, where we watched Forrest Gump in th eoldest open air cinema in the world! And 4 years later on a verandah in Mataranka, ,Nothern Australia, munching on salt-and-vinegar chips with ketchup-happy T-Day!

    I used to keep a book at hand in different locations and got used to having several in process at the same time. Makes perfect sense to me :) I like your peaceful winter scene. Happy T Tuesday!

    I read several books at a time as well but it is because I get bored easily. I need a few things going at a time.

    I can't believe you've read Captain Bluebear - or Käpt'n Blaubär as we call him. It's a classic and every kid knows him. He spins a lot of yarn!
    Your cards are beautiful, but I especially like the Monet one.

    I've tried to read several books at the same time, but I don't succeed - I usually get stuck on my favorite book and then either don't want to read the others at all or only afterwards.

The Sea, Words of Courage, and Some Ink/Watercolor

Hello friends, Last week felt like a stormy sea of its own with my husband recovering from recent hip replacement surgery and several friends and family members facing life battles - my heart was caught in the waves. Computer issues and lack of sleep didn't help. Mark 4:39-41 reminded me: even when the winds rage, Jesus is in the boat. He speaks peace over the chaos. “Peace, be still.” I needed that reminder. Several lovely Creative Worship Stamps sets were used in the making of this watercolored and inked BAJ page: The Sea (the boat and verse), Scene Silhouettes: Tall Grasses, and Have Courage . This page was stamped, then watercolored with Daniel Smith Watercolors. I finished it off with some Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Vintage Photo, Mustard Seed, and Ground Expresso), plus a little bit of Silver Stickles. Flowers, a Flag, and Some Wise Words

Hello Crafty Friends! I love Halle's theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* this month: Botanicals. So many possibilities... I combined the botanical theme with some of the colors in ARTNUDGE#725A and came up with this Bible Art Journal page focusing on 1 Timothy 2:1-2. I also made a patriotic prayer card too. In these verses, Paul tells Timothy (and all of us) to pray for everyone but he especially calls out prayer for kings and leaders. He indicates that this type of prayer could lead us to a tranquil and quite life in all godliness and dignity. I think we can all agree that the world needs much prayer right now and it is an easy step we can take.   I experimented on this journal page. I usually cover any bible journal pages with gesso before painting on them, but I have issues with the gesso gumming up my Micron pens or unevenly taking color. This time I used Daniel Smith Ground Medium in Titanium White (I mixed it with 10 parts water). I loved it and will be using it in the fut...

Wise Words for Life's Storms

 My first post as a Guest Designer for Creative Worship Stamps. This watercolor and ink card features one of my favorite CWS sentiments - Big God . I am so grateful He is there in storms and this stamp beautifully underscores His power. The main panel of this card is watercolor paper and was painted with Daniel Smith Watercolors and Liquid Ink (the white highlights in the rain drops).
