T is For Tornadoes and Tasteless Coffee

 Hello Friends,

The past two weeks Central Alabama has been through two giant storms.  They produced large tornadoes that came within a few miles of our home.  Luckily, we had no damage, but many people around us had lots of damage.  One family friend lost her Son. His truck hydroplaned during one storm and he ran into a tree - he was still in High School.  So many sad stories and lots of damage.

When we were hiding in our safe place last week, I started shivering and could not get warm.  I figured it was from the stress of the storm or the power being out.  I wrapped up in blankets but it didn't help.  When the power came back on, I turned the heat up high, put on several more blankets and drank some hot chicken soup.  Hot tea. A shot of fireball whiskey.  Nothing helped.  Turns out, I had COVID.  I am doing much better now and that was really the worse that I felt.  Lucky again.

I am visiting with my friends at T-day (over at Elizabeth's Blog) and here is my ticket - a fun little card I painted last Saturday.

Even though I can't taste or smell the coffee, it still makes things a bit ore okayer. LOL.

Hugz,

Nancy

  2. I am really sorry about the covid. People here think it's over, it will never be over. When I was at the ER 2 people that I actually heard came in with covid. Glad yours wasn't too bad and that you are feeling better. I hate being cold. LOL So sorry about your friend's son too. Stay warm and rest.

  3. Tornado shelters are definitely not where you want to be when sick. What a horrible coincidence to have covid during this emergency! Good to hear that your home was not damaged, and that you are recovering. I hope the rest of 2023 will be a lot better for you.

  8. I read about the tornadoes and I'm glad that you are okay, but how horrifying for your friends who lost their son. That is devastating. I'm sorry you got COVID on top of it, but good that you are feeling better. I'm afraid that will never go away. Happy T day!

  11. Regardless the tv channel I watch, they all show scenes of devastation in the continuing story of your tornadoes. Seems you have had more than one round hit your area. I'm glad you are safe, but saddened by the loss of your friend's son. I was also saddened to learn you had Covid. How devastating when you are hit with a two fold stressful situation. I hope you are much better now.

I like that card, Nancy. It makes a great T day entry and is a beautifully colored cup of coffee. Too bad you can't taste the coffee right now. I hope that also subsides. Thanks for sharing your beautiful card with us for T this week, dear. Sorry I am late visiting. I have been playing catch up all week!

  15. I'm so happy to hear you were OK from the storms as hubby and I have been watching about that. Sorry to hear about you getting sick as well and hope you're on the mend with that. Really love your beautifully painted coffee cup! Brilliant with the shadows!!

  16. Dear Nancy, it sounds terrible what you write about the tornadoes and their aftermath, so sad that someone from your circle of acquaintances also died, and still such a young person! And then also Covid... definitely not a good time, but from what I read everything turned out well for you, no damaged house, no really bad consequences of illness. Even if it's not nice that the coffee doesn't taste like anything ;-) Btw: I like your card! And I like the word OKAYER. My husband is also ill (according to the test, no Covid, but he's been coughing horribly for a week and there's no end in sight...), I hope he'll be okayer soon too...
    Happy T Day and
    ALL THE BEST! Traude ❤️

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
