A Political Statement in Green and Black

Let me just go ahead and apologize if anyone is offended by the political statement on my card. I have met some Congressmen and they all seemed very nice; however, as a whole, I am unimpressed recently. I am a huge Mark Twain fan, and I just ran across this quote and had to use it somehow. I thought these Dilly Bean dunce cap skeletons would be perfect paired with the quote. This week's Dilly Bean challenge is to use green and black on your card. I love the colors together! Here is the link if you are interested in playing.

To make my card, I used a lovely card designed by StampingQueenJar who is the 102nd Queen for the Day/Week on SplitCoast Stampers. Judy makes the most amazing cards. Her work is so detailed and so pretty - she adds some gorgeous touches to everything she makes. Judy, I tried to capture the same attention to detail in my card, and I kept your basic sketch (a fun one) - I really didn't change much..ha..ha...ha..Here is Judy's lovely card - you really must see it.

You know how cards sometimes get out of hand? Well, the Dilly Beans Challenge was to make a green and black card. I started out doing that...but after I selected by greens, I picked brown to go with them. After I had all my pieces ready to go, I realized that I didn't use black paper. So then I had to sponge all my brown pieces and make them black. I love how it came out so maybe it was a good thing.

This card is going to my Mother. She loves to talk politics with me - my husband says we are arguing, but we know different. She is going to love this one!!!!

Hugz to all!

Things I used:

Dilly Beans Dunce Cap Skeleton Digital Image
CB embossing folder (don't recall the name but it was for Halloween)
We R Memory Keepers eyelet setter (to make the embossed circles on the side of the main bg panel
SU! Cardstock: Old Olive and Chocolate Chip (which I sponged with Stazon Black Ink to make black)
Hobby Lobby Kraft Cardstock
Creative Memories and SU! designer paper
Ranger Distressed Stickles in Star Dust
Unknown Spiderweb sticker (probably Jolee)
Scrap pile star
Feather
SU! Markers and Blender Pen

  1. Glad you and your mom can have great political "conversations" ;) You have such a long drawn out process in the US I can see why people have lots to talk about.

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. My tag is made from an old cardboard box top which I peeled down, painted, distressed a bit, and then added some snow medium. My bow is actually a new bow designed by Pamela Lehto (available at Squigglefly tomorrow). Please join us in the Pattie's Creations Tag Challenge - there are lovely DT tags for inspiration and Pattie gives away wonderful prizes! Hugz!

Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

Two Cards and Two Drinks

Today's post includes two cards and two drinks, all of which have been on my kitchen counter. Feelng a bit lost in Wonderland lately - too much work at work and home.  Thought this card would be appropriate to give myself.   The base layer is teabag glued to some heavyweight white card stock.  I used gesso to add a few scraps of Alice paper from Stamperia (too hard to throw away any of it!), and then I added a thin layer of white gesso and some water colors.  A run though the Big Shot with an embossing folder and some splatters of tea and paint added more interest.  Making this base was a bit like a trip to Wonderland as it sort of made itself over a few days - lol. I fussy cut the cat and sentiment out of the Alice papers and stapled on a border to complete the look.  Isn't this cat the cutest? Over at DRS Designs, I posted this card made from these stamps: Happy Shark Killer Birthday Fishing Square The base on the card is a watercolor wash and the ta...
