A Pretty Girl and Some Flowers

My second Magnolia image/card ever! I am starting to be addicted! I colored this pretty girl with Prismas and some paint I was using to redo a lamp this weekend. I used the inspiration photo from the Magnolia Down Under Challenge:

Doesn't this picture inspire you? I had to play in the challenge after looking at the picture and then seeing all the wonderful DT creations! I also was inspired by the challenge at Pile It On (#33) which is to use NO Designer Paper (I used a piece of an old dictionary page I found on the floor of my craft room and piece of corrugated cardboard from a box I was about to throw out) and the Flower Power Bloggers Challenge at Splendiferous Creations by Lisa Somerville which is focusing on flowers (one of may favorite things to focus on). I am also entering this in the Challenges 4 Everybody which is Anything Goes (that is always inspiring).

Before I close, I want to tell you about a very cool challenge I found this week called Path of Positivity Challenge. The challenge is all about Positivity which the world needs more of for sure! This week the challenge theme is Optimism. You don't have to make a card - you can include a picture of anything you have made (even a group of pictures) that expresses the theme. I could write on and on about Optimism. It is one of my favorite things. I am not always Optimistic but I try to make sure that I am way more than I am not and I work on it constantly. Optimism drives creativity for me. The more optimism I have, the more joy I get out of my creations before, during and after I make them. I strive for Optimism in everything I do and everything I am involved in - work, my relationships, when I am learning, my relationship with God, when I am planning something - even when I am dreaming or driving. I really like this new challenge and recommend you check it out. They have a beautiful sentiment posted that you can get if you request it, and when you post your entry, you have to discuss the theme and how your creation reflects it in a little note with your post or in your blog post like I am doing now. Love it! This card fits the challenge in many ways but mostly in the sentiment which is a tribute to all of the inspiration I get from all the really talented bloggers out there that I visit, all the great challenges I enter, all the super design team members I work with, the companies and artists who make and offer the images I work with, and the sweet words of encouragement I get from people who take the time to visit me and leave words of encouragement or a sweet note to let me know they visited. Also, when I make cards I feel closer to my Mother (who lives next door and is already pretty close - LOL). Even though she doesn't feel very well, she tries to make cards and send them out to her friends and others she feels needs them. She think about the person she makes the card for, she prays for them, and then she sends them off with lots of hope and love. She is the most Optimistic person I know and has taught me so much about how to live a good life (just wish I would have listened to her more in my first 30 years - LOL).

Some great challenges - how could I not be inspired!

Hugz to all!

  3. Hi, Nancy! Such an enjoyable morning I have spent browsing your blog, smiling at your sweet creations, and ooh'ing and ahh'ing over the beautiful cards. Just wonderful. I especially enjoyed your Magnolia card (you have made more than I!), and your take on the Positivity Challenge this month. How blessed you are living next door to your Mom and to a person with such optimism. There is always a special hope, isn't there? Back to your card, I love all the different textures in your card - flowers doily lace - crimping - (I always forget about the crimpers!). Darling card. hugs, de

You are so fortunate to live next door to your Mom and have that great relationship with her.
For many years (over 30) I lived next door to my Mother-in-law. She was not just a "neighbor" and a "Mother" she was my best friend! We went everywhere together, church, shopping (at craft stores) We crafted together, vacations together. I miss her so much! Lost her to cancer I was so blessed to have had her in my life! (and my Mother!)

  24. What an absolutely incredible creation made with scraps and pieces that you had planned for the garbage. Isn't it amazing what we can come up with, with a little creativity? Believe it or not, I too struggle with staying optimistic. We are constantly tested and thrown curve balls and several years back I spent a few years in the darkness. Everyday I put on a smile and work towards staying optimistic. Sometimes I fail and retreat a bit backwards into thoughts of negativity when life becomes overwhelming but the key is that I try to remain optimistic as much as I can. I think that optimism, along with other positive attributes, needs to be worked out just like any muscle in our bodies. Additionally, in this day and age when we are bombarded with negativity it is as important as ever to rise above it all and continue to keep hope in our hearts. I am happy to hear that you have an incredible role model for optimism who lives right next door. I also think more of us wish we had listened to our mothers more!

Thank you so much for joining this month on the Path of Positivity. I am thrilled that you found my challenge and I truly hope that I will see more of your beautiful creations in the future.

May you always find a way to keep optimism alive in your heart!

p.s. just a note for clarification, the sentiments that are posted at the beginning of each challenge and sometimes throughout the month are there for the taking (however please become familiar with my terms if you use one of them), you don't have to request it. I do also offer up one at the end of the month for anyone who has entered the challenge, that one must be requested. Hope that clears any confusion up.

  25. What a darling card and beautiful colors and layers! Thank you for sharing your thoughts about optimism, and how your mom strives to always care for others in her card making as well. You both are so blessed to be that close to one another, not only physically, but emotionally. hugs, de

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
