Flowers and Mice

Quick post today - the pictures were taken fast as got lost in the BAJ page I did this morning and I need to go get ready for work.

I had to make something this morning because there is a new theme at **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* and I just had to play.  The new theme is flowers - wow, I see a lot of  journal pages with flowers in my future.

Today's page took a lot of different directions.  I messed it up like 20 times and had to do something else to it to get it to work for me.  I messed up my Zentangle and had to cover a few spots, them got a blob or two of gesso where I didn't want it, etc. - journaling fast is not always easy!  I started the page with the prompt from the Teapot Tuesday challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com which is to channel your inner Mary Delany (read the article - it is amazing - she is my hero). After I messed up my page, I saw the Mixed Media Challenge at Splitcoast stampers was to chalk it up - add some white paint over a vividly painted random background.  My background was not random, but I used it to fix the page to my liking.
I drew and watercolored the flowers.  Added in some zentangle to fill it in (that is when it went off track - lol).  Then added in a bit of music paper and some pieces from a card my sister, Sharon, made me.  Sponged around, splattered around, spilled some mica flakes accidently on it, then dry brushed some white gesso.

Psalm 81: 1 - Sing to God our strength.  Some wise words. The Psalm talks about how God would slay the enemies of the people if they would turn their hearts to Him and give up their wicked ways.  My sister sent me a card done in black with silver embossing - it said You have a beautiful heart (I tore off some of the words for this page).  She is the one with the beautiful heart.  She started out my best friend.  My father passed and her mother passed and then my mother and her father fell in love several years later (in their 70s).  They had a wonderful marriage and my mother was never happier.  She passed several years ago, but we will have Pop. He isn't feeling well and currently lives with my sister. So my best friend became my sister and God gave me a father (plus two brothers which I had always wanted).  It is a beautiful story.  God blessed me and my mother greatly with her and Pop.

Yesterday, on Thursday, I tried the Try it on Tuesday challenge which is to use black and white and one other color.  I picked brown (surprise).  I needed a card for the husband of one of my friends who just had a triple bypass (in the hospital all alone and she couldn't visit).  Wow that was difficult.  He is a home recovering and wanted to send him something.
I started with an old sheet music to King for a Day.  I did a layer of white gesso.  After it dried, I stamped this cute House Mouse image and colored it with colored pencils.  Next I stenciled on some manly words using and Andy Skinner Stencil.  I also took a rain drop stencil and inked it up, sprayed with water and slapped it down - you can kind of see it in the top left.

  1. Nancy I like the finished result. The little bit of zentangle makes a nice background for those gorgeous flowers. The whole page is a beautiful dreamy effect. Very cute card too. I'm glad you decided to join us at AJJ again (thanks) and hope to see more flowers soon. Happy May and Hugs-Erika

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
