Hot Springs, Dinosaurs and Butterflies

Hello friends.

In today's post I have the last days of our trip to New Mexico (USA), the cover of my newest art journal and a few cards.

One of the things on Allie's New Mexico Bucket List was to visit a hot spring.  New Mexico is full of hot springs and they are really beautiful.  She found the Hot Springs Day Spa at Jemez Springs.  They have 4 mineral pools containing 17 healing minerals.  She said it was an unbelievable experience soaking in each pool (they were all different temperatures).  She bought the rose at a convience store in Albuquerque before we left on the trip (she is a great picture planner).

We ate lunch at a great cafe across the street.  It had a vine covered patio overlooking the street and the mountains.  Many of the locals were there playing cards and talking. Everyone was talking and they talked to us as well.  I haven't had many experiences where people were that friendly at a cafe.  I want to go back!  It was a relaxing and fun experience and the food was awesome (burritos with red and green chili, of course).  There were two men writing a story, and it was very interesting to listen to them build the story.  After lunch, we drove up the road to the public hot springs at Soda Dam and swam for another hour.  Allie had shoulder pain for weeks before our trip, and the pain completely disappeared after these two hot springs.

On our way back down the mountain, we visited the old Jemez Pueblo.  It was an interesting site and a very sad story.  Patton found a lizard on the old church ruins and had to get a picture.

My grandson has always hated pictures, but this trip he started liking the a bit more.  Maybe because my daughter let him take some pictures with her polariod camera.

After we returned to Albuquerque, we went to the New Mexico Musuem of Natural History.  They have wonderful dinosaur exhibits and some great sculptures outside the museum. Here is my grandson posing as a raptor next to one of them.  LOL.
We ended the day with a visit to Casa Rondena Winery.  It is an oasis in the valley and they allow children on the tour.  It is patterned after Spanish Wineries and is beautiful.

Here is a picture of the back where you can sit and have cheese, snacks and drinks. The beauty and sounds of the water melt stress away and make you forget you are in the desert.
Here is my ticket to Elizabeth's T is for Tuesday Linky Party.  Allie tried a small glass of their Rose and I tried a wine tester of 4 of their drier reds. The wine was good but the atmosphere was really special.
As June is coming to an end, I have one last butterfly journal page for **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY where tMia's June theme is butterflies.  This is the inside cover of my new Dylusions Art Journal.  My grandson who loves art is doing it with me.  We are going to focus on songs (at least that was our decision that day - we may change our minds - lol).

We were inspired by THESE cards done by Angie at Natures Inkspirations.  Angie is was the Featured Stamper at Splitcoaststampers.com this week.  You can see we stamped the side of the journal cover with one of the stamps from SU! Forever Fern.  I also made two cards inspired by Angie as well.  This one was done monotone with Crumb Cake.
This one was done using two colors and adding some Stickles and a few butterflies (for Mia).
Thanks for sticking through all my trip pictures.  My next adventure will have to be much closer to home, but I have to say it was good to get out after the last year!

Hugz,

Nancy

  7. Your trip sounds amazing especially being pain free after the mineral baths. Your grandson is so cute as a raptor, but tell him I thought he looked very fierce. How fun to do an art project with him. What wonderful memories you’re creating. Happy T Day

  8. I am sorry I missed this before. As I've said before, your daughter is so beautiful and always smiling.

Looking at the photos from that winery, it IS hard to believe you are in a desert. Stunning photos and great looking wines, too.

Your grandson is so cute as a raptor. I can tell he had fun. It must have been such a great experience for all of you, with you revisiting your past, and your daughter learning more about her mother. The joy of the experience. Thanks for sharing your lovely cards, your continuation of your trip, and your wines with us for T this week. Sorry I am so late visiting.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
