Stamps, Books, Found Relatives, and More Food

Don't you love getting new stuff?  This is my fun new stuff from Red Lead Paperworks.

I ordered the fun vintage looking deer stamp and the three Christmas greetings - all were on sale a few weeks ago.  I love getting their packages because they always send some extra little goodies like collage sheets and old tickets plus even their packaging is cute and reusable.  The sheet with the leaves and acorns on the bottom is the other side of the invoice so you can reuse it as well.  I can't wait to play with these fun goodies.

Here is a look at my current reading pile.

I checked Basil's War by Stephen Hunter from the library, my daughter lent me The Paper Palace, and I bought The Host, Going Back to Petrey, and The Lady in Blue from the Thrift Store.

I am reading Basil's War and The Lady in Blue at the same time - something I really shouldn't do especially since both books are the kind that switch between stories every chapter.  The Lady in Blue switches between four stories: Jennifer Narody a confused woman living in California and trying to figure out why she keeps having intense dreams of a nun dressed in blue; an Indian Tribe in New Mexico during the 1600s who is physically visited by the nun who was actually physically in Spain at the time; and a priest in Rome who is trying to figure out how the nun manifested in two places at the same time; and a journalist who has uncovered the story of the nun, but is realizing that the story may have chosen him instead.  Definitely a page turner.  Basil's War is about an English Spy who was dropped secretly into France during World War II.  He is tasked with finding an old book that may be the key to ending the war.  Both are riviting and I find myself reading during breaks from work nd during dinner - that is when you know a book is good.

Speaking of the war, I picked up some old pictures at a gun show recently.  The man selling them had tons of old pictures, but these four spoke to me.  I plan to copy them and use them in some collages soon. Aren't they cool?  The dress on the photo of the actress in New York grabbed me.  The look on the top soldier convinced me - I am not sure but I think he is in the Bulgarian Army in World War I (but I am most likely wrong and hubby told me not to even try to guess since I don't know anything about it).  The photography company was from around there and very popular.  The tall man is from the Oklahoma Territory and looks kind of sad....  Not sure about the smaller picture of a soldier but he looks fabulous with that fun hair and beard and his stance is so cool.

Now for the food and drink and a wish (or two) for a happy T-day to the gang.  We meet up at Elizabeth's Blog: Altered Book Lover and share our drink related stories, pictures, movies, etc.

I had one more pumpkin flavored ale and I drank it this weekend. I was my favorite of all the pumpkin ales in the box.
We visited with my Brother in Law who is in the hospital in Mobile this weekend.  We didn't get to go to lunch until very late and the restaurant we went to ran out of barbeque and chicken.  We were so tired we just told them to bring whatever they had.  They had Southern Caviar, Sausage, and Fried Green Tomatoes.
It was good.  They felt so bad for us that they didn't charge us.  We plan to go back next time we are in town.

Notice my hubby's hands.  They are the largest hands I have ever seen. When I visited Ford's Theatre a few years ago, they had a cast of Abraham Lincoln's hands and they reminded me of my husband's.  This hands have done hard work and are very supportive to family and friends.  One of my favorite things about my husband.

Hugz,

Nancy

  1. I'm impressed that the restaurant tried to make up for their running out of what you wanted. The photo looked pretty good anyway, though I would also have preferred BBQ or chicken.

  2. What a great restaurant Nancy, not many would feel guilty but the food looked tasty.
My husband has big hands too, he says they are too big for fiddly jobs but has always been strong, in mind and body,

  3. Good morning, Yes I love getting things in the mail-which I order allot in-since we have lived so rural since 2003 when we retired. I don't like driving so just easier to shop online too for comparing prices
I bought new stamps too a set for October and and also a Christmas stamp I fell in love with. I love old photos too and still have a few of them We haven't been to a gun show in years and years. we went often over 25 years ago when there were more flintlocks and native american pieces being sold When we hunted at our woods home my husband only used his flintlock.
I don't think I could eat the tartar but everything else looks good-and I love the label on your beer bottle. Happy T hugs Kathy

  4. You have eclectic reading tastes :) and it's good to have several sources so you don't hafta buy everything. The old photos make my mind want to find a story behind them. Fascinating. I could make a feast on the fried green tomatoes and black-eyed peas alone. Yummy! Happy T Tuesday

  6. Wow, I love your vintage deer stamp! It will make the most amazing Christmas cards, I hope you'll show them on your blog 😁. Your books look fabulous and I'd love to join you for a beer - Elysian Pumpkin Stout sounds amazing! Your meal looks so delicious too, I'd love to try that too. I think your hubby is like mine and is waiting patiently to eat while I take a photo, so lovely to hear you talk about him so lovingly too ❤️. Happy T Day wishes! Hugs Jo x

  7. I never order anything through the mail. If I can't feel it first, I don't want it. That's the engineer in me, I fear. Glad you got so many great goodies and freebies, too.

Basil's War sounds good. I wonder if my library has it. I would love to read it.

Your beer sounds good. I would LOVE to drink that pumpkin stout? The only beer I like. Glad you liked it, too.

Southern caviar! LOVE it. Now I'm extra hungry. The restaurant was so nice to you for not charging you. I would say that's how you get return customers.

Thanks for sharing your cabinet cards (found relatives), your books, your meal, and your pumpkin stout with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy.

  8. It's lovely that with your order comes some extra stuff that you could use for your crafting. And the restaurant sounds very nice, too - not charging you because they don't have the meals you would have liked to order. That's a good way to keep customers and have them come back. The old photographies are awesome.

  9. OH goodies in the mail are always such fun. I like Red Lead products, but I have never ordered from them. And the Lady in Blue sounds really interesting. I am going to add that to my wish list. Those are fun photos you found too. I hope we will see them soon in your art. The beer sounds great, and that was nice of the restaurant. It is hard when you arrive and they have run out things you wanted. But I'd go back too if they didn't charge me. I hope you have a super T day Nancy. Hugs-Erika

  10. Loved seeing those beautiful photos. I love hearing the stories of the people in old photos.
Your crafty mail looks like fun.
That meal looks delicious! I am sure it wasn't very filling but it still yummy. That was nice of them not to charge you.
    Happy Tea Day,

  11. Your new stuff looks fabulous Nancy, I can't wait to see what you create with it all. Your reading pile looks interesting and you picked up some lovely old photographs, I can't imaging selling any of our old family photographs, it's a bit sad really isn't it. Your lunch looks yummy and I'm glad you enjoyed your pumpkin ale, your hubby's hands look like they have worked hard, my husband has very slim elegant fingers, that is probably why he is so good at fixing small things and worked in the Computer and Communications industry for a long time.

  12. Fun art stuff and so beautifully packaged. The carte de poste photographs will make cool additions to your art. I was in an antique shop once and they had a whole pile of old photograph portraits with a sign Instant Relatives. 😺Happy T Day

  13. Nancy I love all the goodies you received and I can see some great collage pieces and cards being made in the future. You have some interesting books there to read and isn’t it great to find a book that is so riveting that you can’t put it down. Your food looks interesting. I don’t like bad service but I’m glad that they didn’t charge you. When I saw the vintage postcards you had purchased at the gun show I thought the tall man was my dad. He so reminds me of my father and how he looked in his younger days. Maybe he might be a distant rellie. I like how you relate your DH’s big hands to his support to family and friends. They look like good strong hands and I imagine a firm handshake. Happy week and hugs from Oz jx

  16. What sweet comments about your husband. Great restaurant if you ask me. Great find in those photos. Who would have thought you would find something like that at a gun show? But then I have never been to a gun show.
    Happy T Day!

  17. Christmas is all around already!
I need to do more reading...

LOL. I have a book in the kitchen, one in the living room and my kindle.
Nice to learn I´m not the only one like that!

Once a teamleader gave me a crime-story to listen to driving to work. My program mixed the files up and I thought I´m just too dumb to drive and listen cause at one point the woman was dead, then alife again... We had a good laugh when I told him I don´t get the story!

Oh, boy, I´m like really late for T-Day!
That drink looks more than interesting!
I only know the sad movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" - reckon you don´t get that dish here.

Oh! NICE people, no charging. Sad you looked desperate, obviously.

Yay for large, helping hands, hugz!

  20. I always love getting crafts in the mail. It always feels like my birthday or Christmas when I get those new things. Last year I gave my hubby a list of things he could maybe get me for christmas (all craft stuff) Told him to keep it for me till Christmas day. Even though I had an idea of what I would be getting...It was still a nice surprise to see what he ordered from my list.
I think I mentioned in your last past that I'm a avid reader too. I often have two books going at the same time. Usually it's a paper back book that I purchased at my favorite used book store. ...Or a book I uploaded on my nook.
I'm looking for the book you suggested in your last post. "Anxious people". It sounds like it's a good book, and it great reviews on Good Reads site.

  21. Lovely goodies in the mail, and great invoice too! That's quite a pile of books- I sometimes read two at the same time too. How lovely that the restaurant didn't charge you! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
