Tea, Gumbo, and Art

I am still putting away Christmas things since work has been so hectic lately.  I put away this fab tea gifted to me by my oldest daughter.  I actually mixed in a bit of the cocao shell tea I bought off Amazon too.

It has a fabulous flavor and smells awesome. I also bought a new tea ball and used it as well.  This is my ticket to the T-day party over at Elizabeth's.   Happy T-day!

Last week, Kathy from the T-Day gang (thanks for reminding me Kathy so I could edit this) posted Martha Washington's favorite cocao shell tea . Since my daughters are sort of decendant from the Washingtons on their Dad's side, I thought they would really love to try it (one did and one didn't - lol).  Here is the back of the container - so fun!
My eldest daughter and I are continuing our diet and yesterday I made something I called Bond Road gumbo.
It was the day before grocery shopping, and we didn't have any fresh veggies left. This is a lot of cans dumped into the pot so we could get in our two cups of veggies before 2:00PM:  okra, tomatoes, mushrooms, turnip greens, mixed veggies, field peas, plus some very fine chopped frozen broccoli and onion.  I added in a bit of chicken and sausage too and tons of spices.  It was fabulous.

Since iwe had a three day weekend, I was able to get a bit of crafting in.
It was based on a recent sermon called Chiseled at Shoal Creek Baptist Church.  HERE is the link to the sermon if you are interested. If you only have a few minutes scroll to minute 9 and listen to the chat between God and Tommy - it is a message that grabbed me.

Here is a fun Valentine made with DRS Designs images. Yes, I fussy cut all those bees.  The bees cut out by the die are inside so no bee was wasted in the making of this card!

Hope you have a fabulous week!!!

Hugz,

Nancy

  4. Lovely tea Nancy, I haven't heard of Cocao Shell Tea, I don't know if we have it over here, you certainly managed to pack the veggies into your gumbo.

  5. That's very interesting about Martha Washington and her tea. I've always found it amazing that her cookbook (that is a handwritten one from her family) survived, so we can know a lot about what the Washington family ate. Of course the real cooks who did the work were enslaved people who don't get the credit, but the culinary history is still interesting.

  6. James Beard put out a cookbook in either the 60s or 70s that I picked up at an estate sale several years ago. It included several recipes that were from Martha Washington. Others were Abigail Adams and several from the mid 1800s. I had never heard of the ingredients in some of the recipes. They also used a lot of game that must have been caught, rather than purchased, like we do meat and fowl today. I was delighted to read that your daughters are descendants of Martha Washington.

I adore Chiseled. Great journal page and a wonderful lesson. And those bees are marvelous. So sweet.

I love the teapot infuser. It is awesome. Your new tea sounds great, too. Love that Kathy was able to encourage you to buy that tea. We are all enablers at one time or another in our lives (grin). Thanks for sharing both teas and your new tea ball with us, as well as your card and journal page, for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy.

  7. That tea sounds very interesting so when I get out again to Cape May to The Tea Shop where they have lots of specialty and loose teas I will look for it. I have a teapot strainer like yours:)
Fab journal page, and I LOVE the card with all the bees! Your veggie soup sounds especially good to me right now. Happy T day!

  9. Your gumbo sounds delicious! I have been counting calories since the first of the year, just to feel good again. I ate too much sugary stuff at Christmas and just too much, period. Lovely post, Nancy.

  13. What a great journal page based off an inspiring verse. Adorable card and loving all the bees.
Your tea sounds interesting. I have never had tea out of shells but the tin is beautiful. I will have to look up that tea.
    Happy Tea Day,

  14. Interesting tea, yes, Kathy from Ozark mentioned it too a while back.
Two cups of veggies before 2pm sounds impossible to me. I don't like veggies at the best of time and I force myself to put a token vegetable on my plate when we eat. Today we're having chicken legs with sprouts. I'll have two sprouts, that's it.
I really liked Chiseled. I listened to the first part of the service, sang along to the songs (I knew them all) and enjoyed the conversation between Tommy and God. Tommy sounded a bit like Michael W Smith...
The bees on the card are beautiful! Well done.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

    1. Lisca, so glad you knew the songs and listened to that conversation - it is one I think I will remember forever. Veggies were tough for me - I liked them but did not love them. I am starting to love them with new seasonings and recipes. Thanks for you sweet comments.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
