Dreams of Fall, Numbers, and a Cool Drink

I hate to admit it, but I am already looking forward to Fall!  That is also the theme for this House Mouse card I finished up today.
I stamped this 2009 Turning Over a New Leaf (Monica) image on the envelope too because the current House Mouse & Friends Monday Challenge #392 theme is decorate your envelope too.  On the card, I stamped the image, popped up some of the leaves and drew in some branches.  The background and leaves are watercolored with DOX ink.  Monica is colored with pencils and watercolor.

I sure wished it was Fall on Saturday when we were watching our youngest grandson at the 6U All Star State Championship. It was very hot. His team lost in the semi-finals. We were very proud of how hard they played. Speaking of baseball, I did two pages on our two All-Stars. I am linking them up to the Numbers theme at **Art*Journal*Journey*.  I have numbers in the journaling and there are numbers on their jerseys.
The All Stars cap and the stars are stamps from Close To My Heart.

I also did a Bible Journaling Page using the Numbers theme.
I did the page at the end of Numbers and used a stencil and several colors of distress ink. I also used an ink pen to outline some of the numbers and to journal a little. I read both chapters on this page twice, and I finally settled on 35:16-35.  These verses spoke to me because of the murder of my youngest sister. When the DA asked us if we wanted them to seek the death penalty, my Mom and I both could not support it.  My Mom wanted to make sure that the guilty parties had to think about what they did for a long time, and neither of us wanted to have the killing of another on our conscious. One of the killers got life with no chance of parole and the other got life with a chance of parole (mainly because he was young).  You think that life without parole would mean there would be no chance they would get out, but every few years they petition to get out for some reason or another.  After 25 years, the odds they may get out at some point have increased...

Reading these verses made me really think about all this. Still not sure I would change my mind about the death penalty, but when I think about what we have been through and what these words say, I would have to think and pray about it a lot more.  I worry about the fact that we rationalize a lot of our decisions rather than following the Bible - at least I am guilty of it....

Ok, to end this post on something fun - here is my drink ticket to Elizabeth's T-day party:

It is some ice cold water with Crystal Light Blackberry Lemonade flavoring.  It is my grandson's drink.  He asked for an ice ball and drank it right up. I try to keep some of these ice balls ready for him as they really do make your drink more fun. Happy T-day to the T-day gang.  Everyone is welcome to join us - you just have to add something about a drink(s) to your post and link it up to Elizabeth's blog.

Hugz!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear of your terrible experience, and I can imagine how you have to live with the memories even though it was long ago. I’m glad to hear you felt that you and your mother were choosing a moral path.

  2. That's an awful experience you had to deal with Nancy. I'm sorry to read about it. And sorry to hear your grandson's team lost in the semi-finals. But it is impressive they made it that far. We've had the opposite weather than you I think-it's just been cold. It sounds like at the end of this week the temperatures may get back to normal. And your art is great, and thank you for joining us at AJJ. I like the numbers, and the scrap page as well as the card. But I have to smile as I am not ready for fall...but our winters are most likely much worse than yours so I'm not rushing to get there. Have a happy T day and week ahead. hugs-Erika

  6. Nancy how awful for your family, I think the courts in England are too lenient, if you take a life you should never be released,
Love the look of the drink with the ice ball, I've never seen one of those before.
Lovely artwork with all the numbers and photos of your GS, he's very cute.
    Happy T Day Jan S

  8. I can't even imagine what your family has/is going through. I'm not sure I would have had the courage to show as much grace as you did.
Such cute pages to remember the Boys of Summer. Please, don't rush the seasons or at least send your hot weather to the Northeast. We haven't had very many warm weather days. Happy T Day

  9. I was sorry to read about your sister. May you find comfort and peace in Jesus each day. I love your House Mouse card! The background is beautiful and so is your coloring. Thanks for sharing at HMFMC. xx

  10. I too am sorry about all that has happened to you and your family. I have worked in the prison system and my thoughts and feelings are very different from yours. Prisoners don't sit in their cells thinking about what they did. However, you and your mom are so strong and full of courage to go through what you are going through. I love that you create. Since we have not yet had any kind of summer I can't say I'm looking to fall. Wishing you the best day.

  11. Nancy, my prayers for you and your family! I cannot even begin to know that kind of pain. Hugs! Your bible journaling is beautiful.
Well, I see you may live around Holtsville? I looked on a map and you are at the southern end of Coosa River and my 3x Great grandfather loved at the northern Ala. Weiss Lake part off Three Mile Creek and Spring Creek. His father-in-law founded Howell Crossroads there. Your cute grandson played his best, I'm sure, always hard to lose especially at that age. Our daughter played fastpitch softball for 8 years and lots of A-ball in summer, so I know how hot it is out there in the stands! Being in Texas, I too am wishing for fall...without any hurricanes before then, please, lol.
Fabulous scrapbook layout pages, love them! XOX

  12. Nancy, I'm really sorry to read about your sister and all the pain, anger and grief you had to go through. This must have been a horrible experience. The more I truly admire the grace you and your mother showed. It must be difficult to find peace. I'm not a religious person, but I hope that your faith helps you.

Your weather must be quite different from ours - it is much cooler than usual. While I love fall, I don't want to see it just yet.

  13. I don't know anything about baseball (this sport has no tradition in Austria and I don't know much about ball sports anyway) but I'm very happy for the boys and for your family that you're having fun with it! I agree it's too hot at times - we went to the playground today with our grandson and got grilled by the sun. Despite that, I can still wait for autumn 😉
Happy T-Day 🌸☀️🌸 and all the best,

  14. Sorry I am late visiting. Lightening took out the electricity last night in my neighborhood. The cats and I spent the night in sweltering heat and only the electricity from my portable OTT light.

What an awful thing to happen to your sister. I used to be in favor of the death penalty, but after reading more about it, I determined it is actually cheaper to give the offender a life sentence than it costs to allow the various appeals the offender is given before final sentencing (death). I can't believe that anyone who has not been through a similar situation could ever know how they would feel until it happened to them, though.

That's a darling card. I had no idea the mice had names. Sweet.

I really LOVE the scrapbook journal pages you created for the GS's. They are so adorable and at least made it nearly there. I also really like your bible journal page. Both are wonderful entries for Matilde's theme at Art Journal Journey.

Ice balls? How clever. That is a great glass for your GS to enjoy his flavored water. Thanks for sharing your art, your sister's story, your card, and your GS's water with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nancy.

  15. Nancy, I had no idea about your sister. I am so sorry for all you and your family have gone through. I have often wondered about this, whether I could really vote to put someone to death on a jury. So thankful, I have never had to make a decision like that. But the death penalty is Biblical. Thanks for sharing, Nancy.
Your pages with the boys are wonderful. Love your grandson's ice cold water with Crystal Light Blackberry Lemonade flavoring and ice ball. Never heard of that. Happy T Day.

  18. Nancy another wonderful card! The little mouse is so cute and the Fall colors are very pretty.
Thanks for sharing your card with us at the House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge.

I was shocked when I read your story about your sister. What a tragic event to live through and the pain never quite leaves you and I am sure you think about her often and wonder what if she had lived....Hugs to you and your family.

  22. Coming back with a different hat I'm sorry to hear about what your family has been through. I'll leave you with a Bible verse that is my favorite. I call it God's phone number. You'll know once you read it why I call it that. Jeremiah 33:3 [Bunny]

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This
