Pirates and Gnomes

Looks like the world is starting to think about getting back to reality - I hope it is not too fast!  I have sure enjoyed having the extra 2 hours a day to craft or lay around - fighting traffic again doesn't sound fun.

What is fun is some Pirates and Gnomes which I made in the last few days.  Finished up the pirates a few minutes ago.  Did a card and a BAJ page focusing on Note all the treasure is silver and gold - such a true statement in life.

I drew Jack fast as you can see and colored him in with pencils and markers. I know pirates are strange in a bible, but Psalms 149 and 150 are about celebrating life and salvation and Jack was good at celebrating plus he had some wise words that fit.  The greatest treasure is a strong relationship in God.
The card is off to someone who loves pirates and renaissance fairs and lost her husband last month.  Inside is a torn paper Jack I made as well (not picture worthy but sure to bring her a smile).  The image is an Octopode (circa 2013ish but I think her etsy shop is still open).  I found my Octopode collection yesterday and I am sooooo glad.  The eyes just make me smile.  The elements around him are Tim Holtz Ephemera and the paper is SU!  Linking to **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY*  as I have some geometric designs - squares and retangles and ovals and circles (his eyes and beads).  Plus lots and lots of lines.

I have some gnomes too:
Ink/Spray/Smash backrounds on my layers.  Cut up some of the TH Cabinet Die on the top layer to make the wall for my DRS Designs Peeking Gnome.  He is colored up with pencils as are the mushrooms and beehive.  Added on some sunglasses from the 4-in-1 Fashion Accessories.  The Beehive was cut a bit to fit on the tag, the mushrooms were cut from the Tree Home Gnome image (failed attempt to get a door on the wall - lol), and the sentiment is Sending You Sunshine.  Also used Script Font Background on the mop up background.  The rolled flowers were hand cut from scraps of paper.

Thanks for visiting!  Many hugz

  5. You did a nice job with Jack. Makes me want to watch the pirate films again. And your cards are adorable. Especially that little gnome. It is nice not having to commute or set a morning alarm. Working from home is a bit hard at times, just because I want to do fun things at home, but I wouldn't get excited about commuting again. Hope your week is going well and thanks for joining us at Art Journal Journey. Hugs-Erika

  7. Oh I love your Jacks! As you say, the eyes on the Octopode Jack are such fun, they are cute and remind me of Jack Sparrow so much. Your friend is so lucky to have you to make her smile.
The gnome card is fantastic, I love how you have him peeking over the edge with his sunglasses on - perfect to link honey and sunshine. I particularly like the way you have made your fencing panels for him to peer over. Great card.

  11. Excellent work with your Captain Jacks - both large and small. I adore the gnome card - something about the cheeky gnome, the sweet tiny toadstools, those golden greens and the framing layers, and the frivolous netting for the bow on top
all just add up to happy for me.

Flowers, a Flag, and Some Wise Words

Hello Crafty Friends! I love Halle's theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* this month: Botanicals. So many possibilities... I combined the botanical theme with some of the colors in ARTNUDGE#725A and came up with this Bible Art Journal page focusing on 1 Timothy 2:1-2. I also made a patriotic prayer card too. In these verses, Paul tells Timothy (and all of us) to pray for everyone but he especially calls out prayer for kings and leaders. He indicates that this type of prayer could lead us to a tranquil and quite life in all godliness and dignity. I think we can all agree that the world needs much prayer right now and it is an easy step we can take.   I experimented on this journal page. I usually cover any bible journal pages with gesso before painting on them, but I have issues with the gesso gumming up my Micron pens or unevenly taking color. This time I used Daniel Smith Ground Medium in Titanium White (I mixed it with 10 parts water). I loved it and will be using it in the fut...

Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

Stamps, Books, Found Relatives, and More Food

Don't you love getting new stuff?  This is my fun new stuff from  Red Lead Paperworks .   I ordered the fun vintage looking deer stamp and the three Christmas greetings - all were on sale a few weeks ago.  I love getting their packages because they always send some extra little goodies like collage sheets and old tickets plus even their packaging is cute and reusable.  The sheet with the leaves and acorns on the bottom is the other side of the invoice so you can reuse it as well.  I can't wait to play with these fun goodies.  Here is a look at my current reading pile.  I checked Basil's War by Stephen Hunter from the library, my daughter lent me The Paper Palace, and I bought The Host, Going Back to Petrey, and The Lady in Blue from the Thrift Store. I am reading Basil's War and The Lady in Blue at the same time - something I really shouldn't do especially since both books are the kind that switch between stories every chapter.  Th...
