Birds, Countrysides, and a Vintage Queen

 Hello Crafty Friends!

Hope you had a good weekend  - especially if this was a holiday for you.  Hubby and I went to a parade Saturday and "listened" to lots of fireworks - lol.  At the parade, we ran into our 3rd daughter, Rachel and her family.  Since Rachel was at our house so much when the kids were growing up, we just called her our daughter too.  Here she is at the parade with her daughter.

I cooked the entire weekend making a Mexican Lasagna (hubby's idea), Chicken Noodle Soup with the leftover lasagna noodles, Pimento Cheese (I use my Mom's recipe and it is wonderfu), and a tropical Chicken Salad. I even cooked hubby a giant breakfast yesterday - here is a picture:

I also got in a good amount of creating - so relaxing!

The July **Art*Journal*Journey* theme was selected by Alison BomberSummer Countryside. For my first journal page, I decided to do a collection of ATCs since Elizabeth from Altered Book Lover has gotten me addicted to them (seriously - I even have a rapidly growing Pinterest Board full of ideas!).  My ATC bases are Stamperia Forest DP.  I focused on Eagles since it was the Fourth of July.  I added lots of sponged ink, fussy cut images, and a quote from Mark Twain about holding onto our illusions (very true don't you think?).  I tried to make my Dylusions Creative Journal page blend in with the ATCs.  I did an Ink/Spray/Smash background using acetate and SU! Inks.  Then I sponged on some TH Distress Ink in Vintage Photo, used the edges of the Large Stained Glass stamp (DRS Designs) to make my crackled took, added in some font in different colors (DRS Designs Script Font Background), and then stamped on foliage from SU! Forever Fern.

The stamps on the bottom are from SU! Snow Front which I also used on the bottom of the left bottom ATC.  I was inspired to add the middle flower arrangement from all the photos in Afloral's Pinterest Site. It is made with stash flowers plus some faded flowers taken off my parents' grave.

I have another Summer Landscape Journal Page as well.  My crafting buddy, Jayne, inspired the Messy, Mixed and Joyful (MMJ) group on Splitcoaststampers.com to make an Art Journal from an old magazine.  She posted several videos and one of them mentioned you could use an old paperback book as well.  I recently cleaned out all my old magazines (what was I thinking?), but I did have a damaged vintage children's book I got out of a free pile at a flea market a few years ago.  It was water damaged but I picked it up because I loved the artwork in it.

I altered it, but still plan to do a title.  I can't think of what title to add yet....

I also wanted to play in the Tag Tuesday challenge hosted by Valerie from Bastelmania.  She picked one of my favorite themes - Vintage.  I made a tag using the Stamperia Alice papers which I cut from various parts of the papers I had left. The papers are vintage-ish, but I stamped some crackle lines and added lots of Distressed Ink in Vintage Photo to each element to age it up more. I plan to add it to a gift of tea I plan to give my daughter.

Thanks for visiting!

Hugz,

Nancy

  4. Goodness, Nancy. I thought I left you a message hours ago, but I got distracted and didn't return. Sounds like you had a great weekend, even if you cooked all weekend. This is one big breakfast. It would have lasted me all day.

I absolutely adore your ATC laden journal page. This is truly beautiful and quite patriotic, too. I'm in love with your art. You have given us a truly beautiful entry for this Independence weekend. You put my ATCs to shame. Thank you for sharing this gorgeous journal page with us at Art Journal Journey using Alison's theme.

I like how you altered that paperback book cover. Please be careful if you intend to alter pages in the book. Paperbacks are notorious for falling apart just about the time you have about a dozen pages finished. I wouldn't want to see that happen to you. Trust me. I have been there and had to salvage the one and only one of those I worked on.

You have an exciting tag, too. I really like the vintage feel you achieved. This is beautiful.

  13. Mexican Lasagne sounds lovely and I would love to know more about the Pimento Cheese - you have such interesting recipes and whilst over in America I always had to finish my trip off with a visit to a Mexican restaurant. Don't think I ever had lasagne there though. Breakfast looks darned good too.
Love the idea of the atc's on the journal page and how lovely they look. Gorgeous background to the whole page and the atc's themselves blend in so well.
Great altered journal page and a lovely tag - I adore all things "Alice" so that was extra special to me.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

A Martini, Peanut Butter Cupakes, and Art

Hello Friends. Today, I have an ecletic mix of drinks, dessert, and art. First, it's T-day somewhere in the world so time for a drink post which I am linking to Elizabeth's Blog - Altered Book Lover.  Last week we had a work related dinner.  When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I had a sudden craving for a martini.  I use to love them, but I guess my tastes have changed because I wasn't a fan.  I was a fan of the chips and dips though! And the day before, I brought my Sister's fabulous peanut butter cupcakes.  Mainly because I was craving them and couldn't ask her to make just one..... Over at **Art*Journal*Journey* Elle picked a theme of Books, Cats, and Tea (you can pick one, two or three of the items).  I did a Bible Journal Page in my Journaling Bible - Luke 13:24-25.  After a layer of Gesso, I took a Sharpie pen and drew the kitty, then the narrow door, and then colored the door with Arteza Brush pens. The verse was written with a Micron pen.  This

Milkshake Malt Porter and a Bit of Art

Hello friends and Happy T-day. It has been hit or miss with me lately on T-day posts. The remodel of our house next door has taken our mental and physical energy.  I think a few more weeks and things will be on the contractor instead of us.  Hopefully I will be back to normal by then. My Oldest Darling Daughter asked if we wanted to come for dinner Saturday.  Translation:  go to the store with me and we will bring part of dinner to your house and you cook the rest.  While at the store, I saw one 6 pack of this fun milkshake porter so, of course, I bought it.  It smells wonderful (a hint of chocolate and a hit of malt) and has a light creamy taste.  I would definitely buy it again if I see it.  My son-in-law did not like it, but he is more a  Miller Lite fan.  Now if this had been a whiskey, he would have been all over it.  LOL.  Linking this to Elizabeth's blog for the T-party gang. Darling Daughter had tried her hand at dried pintos, and she rocked them (I will begging for a rep
