Corrective Scrapping and Some Cards, of Course

 I did a page in my travel journal of our trip to Sloss Furnace. 

I had to do some corrective scapping on this one.  I realized I had mounted my top picture over one of the words and didn't want to redo the page.  I redid two lines and put one of them over my mistake.  Doesn't look as good as I thought it would, but it looks a bit better IRL.  Sharing this with the lovely tribe at **ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY where the August theme selected by Neet is "Type."  Lots of type on this page.  The background was made by inking up an embossing folder (rectangles), spritzing with some water, and slapping it on the page. 

I checked out the book Haunted Birmingham, by Alan Brown, at the library this week.  There were hundreds and hundreds of people who died at Sloss Furnace.  It was a dangerous place to work with the moulten iron, the chemicals, and the steam.  There are multiple ghosts documented including dogs, deer, kids, women, and men. At some point in the history of the site, the workers lived on the property with their families  - they say over 500 workers lived on site at one time. Shockingly, several top investigators have documented sightings during the day, so I am super glad we didn't run into anything.  I love the concept of ghosts, but don't actually want to see them! LOL.

I have a few cards to share too.  I just got this new Isabella flower stamp from CTMH and had to play with it.  The background is Ink/Spray/Smash and I water colored the flowers and lemon and layered them up for Kittie's challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com. 

Here is another version of it, colored up with neutral colors and paired with the Isabella paper.
I also bought the July/August CTMH card kit just so I could get this cool die set.  I wanted to use it with my favorite DRS Designs Greeting, Love You to the Moon and also Starry Background.

    I have seen Sloss furnace on some of the ghost hunting shows. I bet it was a scary place to work. I'm glad you didn't actually see a ghost either. I am like you; I love the idea of ghosts but would freak out if I saw one. I probably wouldn't sleep for nights.

    That place sounds delightfully scary! But I'm not sure I want to see a ghost here! Love the page you made, and you covered the mistake very well. Love the cards, too, one lovelier than the other.     This looks like a fabulously interesting place to visit. And then add haunted to it and it becomes even more interesting. I think the correction lines you made on your page adds wonderful interest. As if the ghosts were trying to change the story and you needed to put it right again. Love your little ghosts popping up not he page. This all makes me smile. Your cards also are so pretty.

    I am going to look up this place when I leave here. I have a morbid curiosity with spirits but like you I would freak out if I saw one. I come from a family who believed in this kind of thing but it scares me and I am sitting on the fence with it but I do like to read about these things
    You made a super job of covering that line up, if you hadn't told us I would never have known. Love the two little ghosts you have added.

    The redo-page came out great! Huh, even at daytime... a scary place for sure (I´m afraid of anything hot).
    Great cards. Oh, I´m so not creative atm, no idea why... The icky "summer"-weather? So... very nice to see yours :-)

    Nancy I like what you did on your art journal page. It adds interest. I love ghost stories too but would run a mile were I to see one. I have had some experiences over the years of “some presence”. Your cards are always beautiful my friend. Thanks for your blog it brightens my day and week and this week has been a busy one.     At first I thought your page was from an old newspaper because of the brown spotting (I think it may be called "foxing"?) but then read that you had actually make it that way and what a great subject too. I thought I might have liked to go to Sloss Furnace but then read about it and it sound quite dangerous and very seriously spooky. Very interesting indeed.
    Then I came to your super cards and to the last one which put me right back in the modern world, thanks for that.

    I think you overcame your problem well, Nancy. It's a gorgeous journal page. Of course, I love rust. Even your background is great, dear. Thanks for sharing another great entry with us using Neet's theme at Art Journal Journey. I would have loved to see Sloss Furnace because of the history and actual furnace, not the ghosts. Sorry, I'm a scientist and would have a hard time trying to believe they were there.

    That floral stamp is beautiful and you used it so well in two very different ways. I think the moon die would be great for Christmas, too. Nice choices you made in purchases, Nancy.

    That sounds and looks an interesting place to visit, not sure I would feel able to go visit somewhere like this but good to read about it. Its a fantastic journal page to share with us and Neet's theme at Art Journal Journey.

    Hard to imagine the awful conditions and atrocities that occurred at any of these furnaces and working environments. You did a great job of capturing the old rusted and worn patina of the furnaces on your page!

    This is such an interesting post Nancy, the Sloss Furnace sounds an interesting place to visit.
    I think we may have a ghost that walks through our house. Years ago I was convinced I saw something walk into the wardrobe in our bedroom, and recently I think I saw a figure walk through the cupboard that is in that exact same place now. Spooky! There used to be orchards in the garden of a large house, where our house is built, so maybe it's someone walking through the 'trees'.
    Enough of ghosts though! I love your cards, they are truly beautiful.

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

 I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

 On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him.
