T is for a Terrific Weekend

Yep I had a terrific Weekend, and I have three ticket's to Elizabeth's T-day celebration (where we share anything to do with drinks).

My first drink is from the Harry Potter Exhibition in Atlanta, GA.  We visited this past Sunday and loved it. I can't remember what this mocktail was called, but it had a dry ice that made it smoke (removed before we drank it of course) and the bartender added in a bunch of cherries for my grandson.  She let him stir them up and was so sweet to him - one of the nicest bartenders I have ever met. Well worth the high price of the drink.

Also at the exhibit they had the famous Goblet of Fire - this was the actual prop from the movie.
I wish they had done a larger version of the dining hall, but they did have a cool set up and the movie of the dining hall in the background changed constantly to reflect many of the scenes in the movies.  If you love Harry Potter, you would love it.
They did have a few tables set up and some hanging candles.

The Exhibition had tons of real props from the movies.  One of the people working there told me the two most expensive ones were the  sorting hat and the sword of gryffindor (in that order).  Here is my grandson with them.

My favorite props were the diadem of ravenclaw, the elder wand and professor Snape's costume (he is my favorite character).

These are my two favorite pictures.  My grandson in the under the stairs replica (they did have real props on the inside).
Isn't this one fun?  It was a photo op where you could make it look like you were coming out of the suitcase. My daugher and grandson couldn't resist it.

Their collection of props and set designs was really fabulous.  I was impressed.  But what made the trip the best is that I know have a fellow Harry Potter lover in my family (everyone else just rolls their eyes and chocks it up as another quirk I have). This grandson started liking it about a month ago and he already knows more about everything than I do.  I am rereading the books just to keep up with him. It is so fun for me to have a partner in this now.

Hope you had a wonderful week and happy T-day.

Hugz,

Nancy

  4. That looks like fun. We are a 3-generation Harry Potter family too. I’m loyal to the whole Harry Potter thing: books, movies, sequels (Fantastic Beasts), and all. The crazies are attacking Rowling but I don’t care, I think they are extremists.

  6. What a fun exhibit! I really like the Harry Potter books but not the movies. They made them entirely too scary, at least the last few. That picture of the suitcase is really neat! So glad that you were able to spend time with family.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  7. This looks like such a fun exhibit Nancy. I would love it too. I've seen some thing when we did a studio tour in California a few years back, but there are a lot here that I haven't seen. Thanks for birthday wishes, and I hope you had a super T day. hugs-Erika

  8. I never read a HP book, or have ever seen a HP movie, so I was sort of out of the loop on this. However, I was so glad to see your grandson had a good time and that is what's important. Loved the photo of your daughter and grandson coming out of that suitcase. A great prop.

I feel like such a fool. I really intended to send you an e-mail letting you know I kept getting a "Failed to Publish" notice. However, life got in the way, and before I could find your e-mail, my world sort of spun out of control. I am SO glad you posted this week, because I was afraid you would be upset with me not leaving you a comment last Tuesday.

Your mock drinks look so fun. I would ask for an extra cherry too. I'm still a kid at heart. Thank you beyond belief for sharing this fun exhibit and drinks with us for T this Tuesday. Thank you again for hopefully not being mad at me.

Forest Goodies and Other Projects

Hello Crafty Friends. I just got the Stamperia Forest Paper and Die Cuts in the mail so I had to play with them right away.   I have a combo creation - journal page and card.  On the journal page I used my 6x6 Dina Wakley Journal and laid a base of gesso.  I then used Dina's pastel crayons and some SU! inks and stamps.  Also added in some TH Dress Ink in Vintage Photo since I don't know how to make anything without it  (seriously).   The eagle is a Stamperia Forest die cut and is coated with gesso.  Did a bit of stenciling and distressing to finish the page off.  I am linking this the the **Art*Journal*Journey* September Texture Theme (last day - can't wait to see what October's Theme will be).  The die cut and the little smears add texture to the already very textured page.   I love the blue and green together and was inspired to made a quick card for my Son-in-law who cut down some tree limbs for us the other day.  The paper in the middle is from the Stamperia Forest

The Snuggle or Struggle is Real

Hello friends, Isn't this new House Mouse Image the cutest?  I am so glad that Spellbinders has partnered with House Mouse and brought in new images.  I was inspired to add birch trees and snow after seeing THIS  pretty card.  The snow is done with Snowtex which is one of my favorite winter mediums, and I painted the birch trees with black acrylic paint mixed with water and painted with an old credit card.  Everything else was painted with Daniel Smith watercolors. This is being entered in the HMFMC#402 which is Anything Goes with an option of rainbow.  While you might not think of a rainbow when you see this card, I actually used a lot of colors in the painting: yellows, browns, pinks, reds, and blues.  Some are not obvious because they are mixed with other colors or a very light.   Thanks for dropping by.  I have been a little under the weather lately, but I am feeling much better.   Hugz, Nancy

Brotherhood Wishes, a Paper Purse, and a Special Mug

Hello friends. No more fun travel or parade pictures - back to every day normal life.  On a positive note, I have been able to fit in some art. Hereis an art journal spread I finished this weekend. I am adding it to Alison's Summer Landscape challenge theme at **Art*Journal*Journey* .   I started the pages in my journal around July 4th after seeing Dina's stripes inspired Mixed Media challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com and got as far as stamping some foliage at the bottom.  I was stuck after that, and I wasn't sure where to go with it next.  A few days later, I was clearing out some things in the craft room and ran across a Thomas Kinkade book I cut up and use in my Bible Journaling.  There was a picture of  the San Francisco Bridge and another of some mountains so I tore them out and added them to my page with Gesso representing some of the beautiful things in America and also Alison's countryside theme.  They did not blend in very well and I needed to alter them to wo
