A Short Little Sunday Sermon

I love Jan Karon. I haven't read one of her novels in a long time (note to self: scour the flea markets for Jan Karon books), but I pull out Patches of Godlight from time to time. It is suppose to be a journal of favorite sayings and quotes "written" by one of her main characters, Father Tim. I love how it is all done in his handwriting and on his old typewriter (complete with typos and corrections). Inside the book are many jewels that inspire me. The quote on this card is an example.


When I focus on this quote, it grabs my heart and takes my breath. I am reminded of the many times I have thought things were impossible, then they just seemed difficult, and then they were done. Wow! After my Sister and Dad died, I thought I would never feel safe or happy ever again. But God put happiness and safety back in my life. He even guided my Mother to a new love three years ago - that resulted in the most wonderful Step-Dad ever and the sweetest Step-Sister (who had been my best friend for years - love you Sharon). I have seen Him bring family members and friends through cancer, heart attacks, the edge of insanity, financial trouble, legal trouble, and spiritual trouble.

Back to my card, I made it with paper out of the SU! Everyday Enchantment dp collection plus Poppy Parade and Kraft card stock. I also used my new SU! Flower Punch as well (I crinkled and wet the punched flowers after sponging them with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Ink, scrunched them around a brad I had inserted in the middle, let them dry, and then filled the middle with gold beads). Being a SCS Punchkateer, I am proud of my punch count - 8 (3 spellbinder cutz and 5 punches using the flower punch).

I am entering this card in one of my new favorite challenges, the Southern Girls Challenge (SGC41), which is to use a sentiment (phrase, quote, inspiring words, journaling, etc). Also, Michelle had everyone using a sentiment in the SCS Ways To Use It challenge (WT368) this week.

    Beautiful card with a lovely sentiment that is just so true. Isn't if amazing how things end up in the "Done" column? Thanks for sharing. I'm so sorry for the losses in your life and so happy for the fortunes you have found.

    LOVE this quote - saw it on one of Swindoll's daily devotionals. It's sooo true :) Glad your mom was able to live it to the fullest :)

    Beautiful card and I love the quote as well. I am so glad God put us together, first as friends and now as sisters. I think we have both been blessed in so many ways. Our trials have made us stronger and our blessings have made us both humble and thankful. Love you.

Some Penguins

Today kicks off the newest Pattie's Creations Challenge which is Tags . Just Tags. No cards with Tags on or in them - just tags. I love to make just tags so this one was right up my alley. I used the super cute Penguin image from Pattie's Creations, but I couldn't stop at just one so I made a little penguin family. Language Plays, Billiard Balls, and Some "Interesting" Wine

 I always look forward to the new **Art*Journal*Journey* Theme each month. The May theme was chosen by Elle and she chose Language as the theme. So many cool things you can do with that theme.  This weekend I chose to do the Language(s) of God in my Journaling Bible.  When I started, I was going to do Fasting as a way of speaking to God but after listening to a Sermon on Fasting, I realized that was more complicated and I would have to study it more first. So I switched gears midstream and just did some of ways that God speaks to us and vice versa.  There are many more, but I put the ones I could think of quickly here.   The papers are from an old hymnal and Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The gnome is CTMH as well.  Now I have played with all the gnomes in the set,and I totally love them. While looking for the hymnal paper, I ran across an old song book that I was saving.  It was damaged so I knew it would have to be recycled into something....

A Covered Bridge, a Shotgun Wedding, Patton Wisdom, and Some Art

 On our recent vaction, hubby and I got back to our historical marker seeking.  This time we visited the Clarkson Covered Bridge. It is super long and very cool.  We also found a website HERE that has a mapped out tour of Alabama where you can visit 7 in one day - a fun trip for a Fall weekend.  This is the only picture I took of the bridge. The day before, we visited the Patton Musuem at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and viewed Ft. Knox from as close as they will let you get. They say there is still a ton of gold in Ft. Knox - trillions of dollars worth.  We liked the Patton Museum.  I don't agree with most of Patton's management style, but do respect that he accomplished much.  I was impressed with some of his leadership statements like this one which I totally agree with: They have some fabulous items at the museum - hubby could have looked for hours and hours if I had let him.
